REAR VIEW Mirror cover question...

2 Attachment(s)
Hi,

I notice that my rear view mirror, when viewed from outside of the car has no cover.

I stopped by a used car dealer and saw a 2003 X5 that has the cover.

Does anyone with a 2006 can check your car for me if you have the cover?

$1M question: what is the PN for the cover (if it exists)?

Thanks!!!

Looks like your windshield has been replaced.

The "cover" you are seeing on a different car is actually the ceramic coating on the windshield itself which covers the area where the rain/light sensor mounts. From what I can see from your pic is that a windshield for a model that does not have rain sensing wipers was installed and your sensor has been removed or yours is not equipped with rain sensing wipers/auto headlamps and the incorrect mirror trim is installed (one that is for sensor installed vehicle)

Hard to tell from the light reflection, but I agree with n sievers insomuch as yours seems not to have the sensor for lights & wipers.
When I bought my car in March this year, I noticed that the windscreen had been replaced and only one half of the rear view mirror cover was there. After much research, I eventually found one for sale on eBay from a UK based seller. Whoever replaced the windscreen in my car, did not centre the sensor properly, so it was almost impossible to align the cover to the mirror. I managed to get it to fit, but poorly.
Let this be a lesson for anyone else who gets a replacement windscreen - it's crucial to have the sensor and mirror positioned perfectly, in order to have to cover fit properly.

Initially I thought my windshield was replaced but when looking carefully, it has the BMW and ? Sekurit logo. To me it looks stock but I might be wrong.

I thought replacement windshield does not have the BMW logo but has only the Sekurit or Pilkington logo.

Perhaps it was replaced with a BMW OEM windshield that was not equipped with rain sense.

I agree, its probably been replaced by an oem windshield. either that or you have the wrong cover. Do you have auto headlights?

Update: I just checked the glass again, it does NOT have the BMW logo. It only says "Seikurit..."

So, this is probably a Sekurit aftermarket glass. I don't have rain sensor.
