imaznumkay 01-21-2006 11:04 AM

lol spray paint them!

when my grills broke when they were spray painted, dealership replaced my grills to the silver ones under the warranty lol

jaaX3 01-21-2006 11:29 AM

Maybe she is trying to decide which is the first "real" mod. Or maybe she is in denial that she got the mod bug. Good luck with this one, I wonder how the tape will hold up/on over time.

I also copied coffeeman's mod. However, I primed mine first w/ a white plastic primer and then used a silver/textured plastic spray paint. I then applied the 1/16" strip of chrome pinstripe to the leading edge of the grille slats. Total cost: $5 for the primer, $7 for the plastic auto paint, $4 for the 1/16" chrome pinstripe = $16 = priceless quaility time in my garage admiring my work.

I think they look great....I know, I know...it doesn't count b/c I've not posted pics. (I'm telling ya' guys I'm 'puter retarded)! :)

I'm serious when I say this.... I think my dog ate my usb cable for my camera to hook it up to a computer. Matter of fact I know he ate something... bits n' pieces were found after the fact.

Okay, I promise I'll look into it it tomorrow! :) I might have to post printer/puter questions....fair warning!!!

Here it is...so yeah, I guess this is officially Mod #3. Mod #1 was the visor, Mod #2 was Rob_'s Non-Smoker's Cigarette Lighter, and Mod #3 is my chrome grill tape.

I have a before, halfway, and two after shots. Along with a picture of Mod #1 (you can print it for your dartboards) :) :)

Let me know what you think! (I don't know if I'm 100% sold on it.)

Wagner 01-21-2006 02:10 PM

looks nice.

breytonX5 01-21-2006 02:17 PM

I like it Michelle, the new grille. Looks great.

Not sure about the visor with the floral prints though. ;)

BMERGRL 01-21-2006 02:20 PM

jaaX3 01-21-2006 02:23 PM

It looks cool. Do you have any shots from farther (further?) away?

As I was posting them, I realized I need to get better pics...it just got really dark because it's going to rain...let me see if I can run out and take some really quick...

Ok now we're talking. Did I mention I like visors, especially hanging from the rearview mirrors? :)

I like it, but it looks a little messy? Maybe it's from resizing the pics.. :dunno:

Yes...definitely the resizing of the pics. It looks clear and clean on the original pics, but of course, they are huge and won't go on the site.

vinuneuro 01-21-2006 04:58 PM

Looks great Michelle. Good job  .

Just don't carried away now that you've got these done and use chrome tape on the wheels  .

If you want, you can e-mail to me, and I will post them up on my site full size. I'll send you a PM.

HAHA...have no fear! The only chrome left to be added will be exhaust tips and gauge rings! I passed up a pretty nice X in my search because it had that chrome trim around the windows...looks ok on some, but not on black...IMO.

That means that X5 didn't have Sport Package though. In that case, you're definitely better off with black :) .

ChristopherM3 01-21-2006 06:37 PM

Nice job Michelle............I did this on my Grand Cherokee grille about 2 yrs. ago and it's held up great so far.

Does that 3M chrome tape go on nice and smooth without wrinkled edges or bubbles? Where did you buy it from?

These aren't the greatest pics and it's not too clean, but you can get the idea of what it looks like........
(Notice I put the clear corners on it about 3 years ago.......)

They look nicer now!In fact, they look similar to the grills I got but you managed to get +/- the same effect with just the chrome strip.Congrats.
It may be the photo but your grills look like they need to be pushed down in the middle to look straight!
