Trying to remove DSP amplifier and DSP Q
 

I think my amp went bye bye in the X and I'm trying to remove it and take it apart. How do I get to the bottom two bolts that hold it in place? I removed the CD changer and the top bolts but I don't see how I can reach the bottom (doesn't look like its from the spare tire either).

Also if I buy a used replacement does it have to be coded for me to even get sound out of it? I got a good unit to try and test the system but when I plug it in I have ZERO sound.

if i recall you have to take the bolts out that hold the whole stand.

my amp got wet/sound was distorted. I bought a replacement Amp off Ebay, ( was from a car 1 year newer). plugged and played - no coding.

As KevinKay mentioned, if your replacement amp is from an E53 it shouldn't require any coding and be a plug and play installation. I bought a used DSP amp that was pulled from a 740i and despite being the exact same brand and part number for my X5, it requires coding to operate/sound correctly.

Ditto as to which BMW model the amp comes from. The e53/e38/e39 all used the same amp...but requires coding to configure the sound dynamics for each model's speaker and interior set-up.

The amp will still work if from an e38/e39...but the sound will be muddled. You may be able to live with it...but it won't be the best it could be. :)

Thanks guys. I plugged in one a buddy let me use and it was completely dead so I'll just assume his is junk. Mine at least makes some sort of noise. I'm going to disassemble mine tonight and hopefully see some corrosion or dust that can be cleaned. If not I'll just buy another off eBay.

I've got a new "uncoded DSP" from BMW which I got cheap....2 years ago.

Apparently, no such luck coding it. with INPA - DIS - GT1 - PA soft & Navcoder.

Hooked it all up before and everything's flat and loudness disabled confirmed via INPA.

Good thing my original DSP hasn't failed on me yet!

Found one local at LKQ out of an 06. Apparently I have DSP2 so its a little different and twice the money :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I'll have it tomorrow and hope it fixes the issue. My girlfriend closed her own business and went back to work 3 months ago. I gave her the truck (along with the note on it) because she wanted a nicer car then what she was driving and I bought an older Audi to tinker with in the snow. Since I gave it to her it has experienced some stupid ass expensive problem at least twice a month. We both love it (even plan to drive it to Miami for Christmas) but my luck with this turd hasn't been great in recent months. :yawn: :yawn: :yawn:
