E53 coding help abs traction control air suspension removal
 

Hello! I have an e53 04 4.4i with front and rear air suspension that I converted it to normal coil suspension because the airbags would give a lot of problems over time. I successfully converted the car but the abs traction control light remain on because of the air suspension being removed even if the module is not present, I need the suspension inactive message erased from the dash and the abs code deactivated from the computer problem is that I ordered the kit to code BMW but I'm not sure of the name of the computer to which code for. Any help is appreciated or if anyone has done this procedure before thanks in advance.

Since the air ech is no longer connected where are the codes stored in the abs ecu? What is the name of the ecu that keeps the abs traction light on?

I think I misunderstood what you were asking...I thought you were unsure of what the air suspension was named or called in BMW speak. Also not sure why EHC messages would be connected with ABS system...they aren't related by anything that I can think of. You may just have two separate issues...or perhaps an ABS sensor was damaged during the removal if the air suspension.

I don't have any of the software test is used to communicate with the vehicles bus system...so I'm going to be of little help...but as you can see in the chart below...EHC has its own control module...so I'd expect any messages from that system...would be sent to the LCM.

The reason for that is...the LCM is the component that sends messages to the IKE (instrument cluster electronic). So my assumption is that the EHC control module would send a message to the LCM over the K bus when there's an issue with the system. The chart below is for an e53 with the low cluster...your 4.4 would have the high cluster which has a slightly different bus system (I,K,M,P,CAN,& Diagnostic busses)... But the concept is still the same...you need to code the air suspension off.

I would think you'd need to go into ZSC coding to find EHC and code it off. If the coding isn't looking for air suspension...then the message should go away that there's a problem with that system.

As far as the abs issue...hooking up to diagnostics would hopefully reveal why the ABS lights are illuminated.

I have converted 2 E53s from 2 axle air suspension to regular coil springs. On first one I left the control module connected and I only removed the error message from the LCM(light and check module) and all is good. In the second one the module is missing and the error "Incorrect coding" pops in the ABS/DSC module. I didnt give it a deeper thought, but believe that the VO(vehicle order) has to be changed(the EHC option removed) and then the car has to be coded completely.

Thanks, that is the issue, once I can start tomorrow with the coding I will post again, but the abs will remain on if the air suspension module is removed I'm not the only one that has had that issue

If the EHC module is left connected in the vehicle the DSC will not throw a code because it receives the correct messages from the EHC. The actual code in DSC doesnt say "Incorrect vehicle level", it is for missing CAN messages from the EHC.

Guess I will disabled those, I have an obd to usb, what programs can read abs codes, it be a great time saver to dl before I get home

I bought a kit to code bmws, with that obd2 to usb I'm sure I'm probably can read the abs codes, can anybody point me to the right direction or name of the program to read abs codes
