X5 and hwy 4
Took the X5 to the mtns, approx 4hr drive each way. Roads weren't wet, weather was cool, car loved it. Roads rolled enough to make a normal suv roll and brake. Too easy for a well setup sports car, but seemed to be perfect for the x. Really was able to utilize the stiffer suspension setup and "s" mode. Holding revs and lower gears really let the car pull out of corners well.
Where the lanes allowed passing overtook 2-3 cars at a time with ease. Definitely had me smiling again. If I can keep it running at reasonable yearly costs I'll hold out on selling a little longer - based on some property investment this may be a more routine run |
I have an E39 M5 and my daily is an 02 x5 3.0i. This weekend I was going over Donner pass road (not the main hwy) and this road is very curvy but I was very impressed with how the car just took the road so easily. The 3.0i motor makes the car feel so much more nimble on a road like that. BTW, the car was loaded with 5 people and their luggage and the elevation was about 8500 ft and the X5 just hummed along up the mountain. Some of those corners would have killed most SUV's for example the loathful dodge Durango or grand Cherokee.
