Pumpkin Head Unit
Anyone installed one of these that has some feedback? Thanks!
Pumpkin plug and play Audio Radio Head Unit 1 Din Android 4.4 Kitkat Car DVD Player GPS Navigation For BMW 5 Series E53/X5/M5/E39 |
It looks horrendously cheap and aftermarket - stick to Avin Avant 2 or Dynavin N6 IMO

I read somewhere on here about someone who had a Pumpkin unit and was happy with it. For $400 I think I am willing to roll the dice on this puppy. That is half the price of the Avin and Dynavin. The front fascia of the Pumpkin looks nearly identical to the Avin 2 with the exception of the placement of the SD card slots. I know the support will be next to 0 but can't be worse than the busted screen i have now. |
let us know how it works out for you
very interested to hear happy thanksgiving!!! |
Yes I got that unit (prev version), works good when considering the price.
I wrote about it here: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...t-install.html You might to mod the mic, to get good sound for hands free calling. This could be fixed in newer version of the unit. |
I have had a Pumpkin quad core Android 4.4.1 unit for about 4 months now and am very happy with it. Looks OEM, sounds a heap better than stock radio/CD and came preloaded with IGO primo maps and paid version of Torque.

Check your current system in the car because if you have DSP, this system is not Plug and Play.

Great point. Do they have an option for DSP? My car carries the DSP Option. |
^No they dont - you have to bypass the amp as has been done in previous installs of other units - actually in the Avin2 install I think the writeup shows that as long as the OBC and radio is still powered it would work - but I dont know if that is Avin specific

Price is definitely right. And I think that might be clouding your aesthetics opinion. Which is fine... give it a shot and see if you like it. As you said it's a lot cheaper than going with the Dynavin and Avin in the event you don't like it. Dynavin is the only option that has DSP support as of now I believe though. There is a workaround for the Avin and probably that Pumpkin unit as well though. It's posted here somewhere. After having the Avant 2 for a year and loving it in my 4.4i... it's hard for me to go back to the stock unit in my current 4.8is. My only gripe was losing the OBC functions. That's the only reason I have not purchased another Avant as of yet. |
