Window regulator question

So, my window regulator just died in the 'window completely open' position. Question: the DIY articles here and elsewhere show how the window needs to be slightly raised in order to get to the mounting bolts that attach it to the regulator. Am I going to be able to replace this thing if I can't get the window to raise at all?

Yes, you'll be able to raise the window glass manually once you get the door card off.

I'm probably gonna be repairing the regulators in 3 doors this weekend... did the driver door last weekend and got pretty familiar with the setup. It's really easy once you figure out where everything goes.

You probably don't even need to buy entire regulators... just get the repair parts from RegulatorFix and buy replacement clips to attach them to the window itself from the dealership.

^^This - heavier duty regulator clips from RegulatorFix ($14 per window) and a pair of black window clips from the dealer ($2 each), clean the tracks out and lubricate, and the regulator should outlast the vehicle

If it is the motor that has died, there is no manual way to raise or lower the window. I ended up having to cut my regulator cables to unbolt the window.

I seem to be stuck. Motor will try to move window down but seems like something is stuck when I try to raise. It's locked in the lowest position. The upgraded parts sound like a great idea but I've already purchased my dealer $225 regulator. :( :(

So I need to cut regulator cables then?

looks like cutting did the trick. thanks, joshdub-

Go to Bavauto.com for a nice DYI video

So it appears you have to take the window glass out to get the old regulator out. Argh. The DIY on this site doesn't say it's necessary but I can't see how I will get my regulator out without removing. Any tricks to avoid this??? :)
