X5 Transmission service picture
I am catching up with maintenance on my X5 3.0i 2003. I bought her a month ago with 126K miles on it.
Saturday I did transmission work. I dropped the pan, replaced transmission filter. I used Pentosin ATF I think my old ATF was expired.... http://media.fotki.com/1_p,rrkffkbtq...7/Oil02-vi.jpg http://media.fotki.com/1_p,rrkffkbtw...7/Oil01-vi.jpg https://www.carpartsdiscount.com/aut...9_9517_060.jpg |
ahhhhh

I believe Dexron III was the original ATF for the GM trans. BMW now approved Dexron VI as the ATF for these trans. Just curious why did you put in Pentosin?
|
I think you might be right.

It's like a black & tan! Guinness anyone?
|
I got mine done at 242,000km by ZF themselves, oil, filter and gasket.. I'll tell you now... they were so hesitant to tell me that the oil has never been changed. They said it was so black and used up.. it was good that I came in for a change. They said to come back in a-few month to do another oil, filter and gasket change because some old fluid is still stuck in the torque converter, which I plan on doing in Jan 2016.
Its so smooth now, I cant imagine another transmission fluid change Its smooth and responsive! |
That speaks volumes! Just common sense to do a service. On my list for soon. Thanks for the "evidence"

Pentosin

I used Pentosin because that was what the manual called for, as well as the auto parts store system. Below is a more detailed thread on these issue: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ion-oil-2.html http://media.fotki.com/1_p,rrkfdksww.../ATFOIL-vi.gif |

The image that you posted supports my statement. The image also caution against mixing different type of ATF. |

Also the dealer confirmed Pentosin is good for both transmissions. |
