Airbag light on permanently!
 

Hello!

I have a problem with airbag light. As soon as I turn the ignition it appears and stays on permanen. Does not go out for a few seconds and come back. It is on solid!

Does anyone here know what that indicates? I have tryed accessing the module with INPA, but get error IFH-0009 on the airbag module..

This problem came after I did some rewiring in the driverside wireloom going from chassis to door..

Any help?

It means a fault in your airbag system. Probably something disconnected or a wire got clipped. OR it means you started the car (ignition to acc or on) while something in the airbag system was disconnected.

My airbag system should be just fine. It was before I did some wire repair in the wireloom between the chassis and drives door.

I did turn the key while the connector from door to chassis was disconnected..

Guess I have to go over and recheck the wires again.. And hope I can get the airbag light to do it's "normal" fault cycle. I belive that when the lamp lights up solid (not turning on, then off for a few sec and on again) It is completely shut down or something.

If you have an airbag light/fault, it will not "cycle" or reset itself.

If you had the wire loom disconnected from the door and turned the key on, that would register a fault that will not clear itself. If this is the case, just clear the fault in inpa.

If you had the door panel off or the seats out or in any way removed any portion of the airbag system AND turned the key on to test whatever you were working on, then you tripped the fault and it will remain until you get a scan tool with the ability to reset the SRS, or take the car to a shop that can reset it. They will want to test stuff and charge lots of money, but you just explain that you had something out of the car and turned the key on and tripped the fault.

I cant communicate with the airbag module. I get error IFH-0009.

THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO. Well, you can always double check your work, but the circuit design is that if there is a fault that is triggered, the fault code will remain even after the fault is corrected. SRS is a "safety of flight" item, and any fault must be cleared through software even if the fault no longer exists.

Just bring it in and let someone who knows what he is doing fix the problem. Or do what some people do, black electrical tape over the annoying message and you are good to go.

Start with fuses.

Also what year is your vehicle?

Does your vehicle have the 20 pin DLC connector under the hood? I assume the earlier E53 may have the 20 pin DLC connector under the hood.

If so, are you connected to the 20 pin DLC connector under the hood with an adapter cable?
