Is there an iPhone app to read engine codes and reset airbag lights?
It's almost 2016... is there yet an iPhone app that can Bluetooth wireless interface with a ODB-II reader tool, and, (key) is actually really good at reading ALL codes, and maybe even has some diagnosis capability? (ok, that last part is greedy, I know).
My buddy at work uses an Android app plus a $39 bluetooth reader tool/head to not only troubleshoot codes, but the app software's UI is so good, it reads codes and engine parameters... while he's driving. I tried a few months back to find an iPhone version of it, or anything else like it, and there wasn't anything yet. My Peak Research tool works pretty well, but it's older and doesn't read all the BMW codes. Plus, Peak still has the Airbag Tool separated out... you have to buy both. I've got an airbag light on one of the Z3s, and need to reset it. Since my engine code tool is older, I'm wondering.. hey.. just join the modern tech wave here and get one app that gives me both a new engine code tool and an airbag tool, all in one app. Any latest news on this guys? Thanks! |
OBD Fusion. You'll need the bluetooth OBD that's wifi. Read the app it'll tell you what reader it's compatible with.

I have one from Xtool (iOBD2), it has a specific app for BMW codes, similar to Peake. No airbag reset, but it reads and clears everything else. There are specific bricks for BMW and VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) and a generic one for plain old OBD2 codes.
Plug the little brick into the OBD2 port, look for the WiFi and connect, then open the app in an iPhone/iPad (after getting it from the AppStore) It will also read generic OBD2 codes for anything non-BMW, but it's a separate app. Streams live data too, stuff like fuel trims and VANOS timing. Apps are all free, the brick is about $90 I use it all the time to help diagnose coworkers issues in the parking lot. :) |
I've had good luck with the Carly app on my vehicles. On my e90 it showed specifically in English what the issue was and which cylinder the issue was on. I currently have the Android app but will be getting the iPhone version soon. The current version shows support for Coding, Diagnostics, and Engine Parameters. It doesn't appear to be able to reset the service info, so I'm not sure how important that is to you.
Carly offers this for your BMW model |
yes,i also have iobd2 scanner,it can work for both Android and iPhone. But for BMW it only can work on iOS.Install the Apps on your iPhone and connect by bluetooth.

You can get a cheap android phone or tablet for next to nothing. Get one of those and use the app.
