anybody else with range reading
 

anybody else have notice this behavior. it seems like when the temp outside fall below 35 degrees. i use more fuel than when temp higher that 50 my job is 20 miles away on warm days. i gain miles but on cold day i loose mile according to the onboard range display. also when i fill up the tank full to the hill gauge in the corner showing full the range shows 380 mls then other fill up it might show 411 mls last week fill up only show 360 mls even though on option 6 on the obc show 27 for gallons.thanks

The range when you fill up is based on the idea that the car is getting <whatever> MPG at the time, and with the new load of fuel X the current MPG, the result is the displayed range. If you are getting 16 mpg and fill to a total of 20 gallons, then the range will be 320 miles, but if you are getting 20 mpg and fill to a total of 20 gallons, then the range will be 400 miles.

A couple of things happen in winter, one of them is that they change the blending of the fuel in an effort to prevent particulate matter from filling the atmosphere. A result of re-blending the gasoline is that your mileage changes, it gets worse. Dense air also calls for more gasoline because the car wants to maintain an air/fuel ratio of 14.7:1. This ratio gives a balance of molecules that when the exhaust goes into the CAT, the chemical reaction with the metals inside of the CAT makes an even distribution of water and oxygen molecules, or whatever. The CAT splits and combines the exhaust gasses with the metals inside to arrive at water, carbon dioxide, and oxygen. The ratio of 14.7:1 provides for an even distribution of the electrons that go into making the molecules. When the air is dense, more gas is needed to make the air/fuel ratio right.
