Sweet. Now I've got a coolant leak....

Meh. After a relatively trouble-free existence with my X5 for quite a while now. It looks like I've got some sort of coolant leak. After pulling the X out of the garage this morning, I noticed a couple spots of the on the garage floor morning that turns out to be coolant.

I peep under the car and there's a little blue drip hanging from the rear of the inspection hole in the stiffening-plate. Grrrrr. I am not going to get a chance to look at it until late tonight at the earliest. For now it's just gonna drive me f'ing crazy.....

Man, I hope it's not that damn kidney pan in the bell housing. I don't think that's a cheap fix....

I replaced the valley pan and rear accessible only heater hose right at 2 years ago along with all of the coolant hoses and fixed up a couple o-rings in some of the other fittings.

The water pump I am very certain was replaced at some point prior to my ownership.

Maybe I can get lucky with this thing and it's an easy fix. I checked the coolant level and all looks good so it hasn't leaked that much. I did notice I'd be adding a few ounces of coolant a couple
tmes a year.

check the o-ring connections to the back of the water pump. That's where mine decided to leak...but it was a smaller leak than yours.

Well. I've got it sitting with a bar of pressure on it now. Can't see where it's leaking from yet.....

I did see a little evidence of a blue hanging drip or two in the area between the front of the transmission and the bell-housing area. I don't believe it came from the weep-hole between the engine and the trans. Hoping it came from higher up! This area....

Well - after letting it sit with some pressure on it for a couple hours I finally got a couple new drips. I think it's coming from here.....

:(

Anyone make this repair themselves, or have a shop do it?

^That looks like it is going to suck... why is their a gasketed area like that requiring dropping the trans to repair? I'd put that up there with the alternator housing gasket as far as WTF were they thinking in terms of design.

Man. This might be what does it for me and the X. :(

I really like that car but am coming to the realization that I am not so interested in continuing to wrench on it anymore. It's too bad too. I put a bunch of new suspension stuff on it a year ago.

Maybe I consolidate the CRV and the X into something new....

Not saying it's "for sale" but if you're in the Chicago area and are looking for an X to fiddle with - let me know.
