Engine Misfire on 2001 3.0 petrol
 

Hi

I have a misfire on my X5. Engine sounds all thumpy and the whole car shakes. Lacks power. It used to misfire every now and then, but now it does it all the time.

Is this likely an easy/cheap (ish) fix, or is my car dead?

Any chance you figure out which cylinder is misfiring?? (scan tool or some thing?)
change spark plugs, and check coils, (replace whichever is not functioning)
Its a pretty easy repair. failing that, replace all the spark plugs, and coils, and she should be running without misfires! (unless ...!

Car isn't dead as the engine is still running, is it a cheap fix??? Depends on what is causing the problem. Cheap fix could be a tank of decent gas, expensive fix could be an engine rebuild/replacement due to the DISA valve flap pin becoming dislodged and working its way into the engine.

Are there other symptoms such as unusual sounds?

Any spark plugs do?

If I replaced all of them, how many I need? Any brands to avoid?

Same with coils...

If the engine needs major work, then its dead me thinks :(
