Diagnostics tool

For diagnostic work (reading/clearing errors, reading live data) I would recommend the BMW Scanner v1.4
The hardware can be purchased on eBay for under $20 and the software is free as long as you can spend a few minutes to search for it.
You can do coding with this cable and software as well.

The software on the P.A. Soft. site is a demo version with limited functionality.

If you are a big fan of the Android platform then I would highly recommend Carly for BMW. Does diagnostics and coding too. Have used on on my E92 335Ci and found it to be easy to use.
