X5 3.0 Ebay headers
Well, I finally went for it. Bought some headers for a 330i off eBay, and got a chance to hook them up this weekend. Initial impressions are great! I think it sound amazing in conjunction with 4.8is mufflers. And, there seems to be a noticeable power bump. I'll post more thoughts once I get to test them more in-depth

Nice mod and what a way to enhance the X5 3.0

Noice! Sounds bad ass!

Very cool.
Did you have to replace any studs? Any major complications? Any check engine lights? |

Yeah, The nuts were sized to the studs. So, when I unscrewed them, the stud unscrewed from the head. I figured that I might as well replace them all. No major complications. I did have a shop cut and weld new flanges on the mid pipe to make it fit. But, I was expecting that. For the check light, I flashed my DME with the Euro 2 tune. It deletes the post cat O2 sensors and the secondary air pump. No check light for me  |
^^This is AMAZING, if I didn't have emissions every 2 years now I'd consider it - I would assume it would work in conjunction with the Conforti Shark Injector I have now - prob just reinstall stock tune, flash DME to Euro 2, and then reinstall Shark on top of it.
Any smell from the cats deleted or no? |
Awesome! As RB said if I had no emissions I would definitely do this.

The tune will show up on an emissions test as a "fault" (for lack of a better term). I have headers sitting in my living room for my Z, reasons for the questions. I plan on using mechanical cat simulators and just simply leaving the sap disconnected from the exhaust. I guess I need studs too:) |
Obd readiness is the word I was looking for. Some emissions testing facilities will not fail you on one not being ready. I've read Texas is one state. I have yet to check my state, but if your state allows two readiness faults, then the tune would work.
|
^This is correct - has to pass readiness - in Jersey if you are catless you cannot tune out the CEL - you have to play with o2 spacers so the readiness passes
|
Yeah! luckily we don't have emissions here. What RB said is correct. If I had to pass emission readiness, I'd flash back to a US tune and play with the 02 sensors. RB, It actually doesn't smell much at all. Seems like it could pass a sniffer test... probably not. But, maybe... Did some research, and it looks like the shark wont be compatible. I'll need to confirm it. If I go the shark route, I'll flash back to US and play around with some spark plug non-fouler's

One small caveat, you will have to jumper a wire in the cluster. I'm fuzzy on details, but there is an mil check as well when they do a readiness test, and there is an easy work around. A Google search would give you details. |
I guess I need studs too:)
You called? heheh Quote:

Hey thanks guys.
I think Im gonna try mechanical cat simulators and disconnect the sap from the manifold, but leave it operational. I still have to go through smog and if they see anything they're going to flag my car meaning under the hood inspections from here on out which I don't need. I am courious as to how many readiness faults Oregon allows..... The kicker here is that only Portland metro requires a smog check. If I just moved out a lil further I wouldn't have this delima. But hey, makes it fun right? |
