Anyone know how difficult it is to change? Dealer wants $550.

It's easy peasy but I have a 3.0 and it's right behind the right headlight. I'm not sure where those are on the V8's.

Removing it involves disconnecting the harness plug, removing two hoses, and the bracket, and putting it back is the opposite.

It's about as easy as removing the air box and MAF on a v8 equipped vehicle.

First question I have is why DO YOU FEEL THE NEED TO REPLACE THE PART?

Noise?
Nonfunctional and now there is a code?
Fell off?
:wow:

A few screws and electrical connectors. Not hard at all.

If anyone finds this thread with a problem with the air pump, this company rebuilds the air pumps (part #1 on the diagram):

BMW Air Pumps

Depend on how mechanically incline you are. Have you ever worked on a car? If you are posting this question after looking at the Realoem diagram, I think you should just take it in.

30 minutes max. If you have the tools, etc. Make sure you diagnose properly.

Not reading real well today. Just noticed the OP called out the hard metal line, part 11. Sort of hard to understand how or why that would go bad. The vacuum valve, part 8, and the air pump, part 1, are common failures.

Maybe an o-ring failed?

If the metal pipe is occluded with carbon, that means air isn't blowing into it properly and more parts are probably bad.

g300d 02-07-2016 06:27 AM

Doh, read that as secondary air pump too!

It doesnt look like much trouble but I echo the question on why? That pipe looks like the least likely thing to fail in the entire system.

We are talking about BMW's though so I wouldnt be surprised if those break too lol.
