LIMIT --- MPH on dash?
 

Just yesterday I noticed on my dash readout "LIMIT --- MPH" and it won't go away. Everything seems to be running fine and there no other warning sounds or indicators. It seems like the ABS kicking on during a snowstorm yesterday triggered it. I have a 2005 X5 4.4i that used to have the navigation DSP system but was replaced with an aftermarket eonon so I can't check the OBC in the head unit. Any ideas?

I have the same exact problem as of late. I'm going to disconnect my battery one night to see if I can reset it that way.

That happened to me once, after an off-road rest...the head-unit was no help so I disconnected the battery and waited for 2 min...it did the trick. Hope it works for you....maybe even start by pulling the fuse for the OBC....

dpappyp, you mention that your car has DSP and an aftermarket eonon, did you install it yourself? Sorry for changing the subject but I've been asking if I can do this very thing to my DSP equipped car and no one has confirmed so far...

I figured it out. Must have hit the push-in button on the signal changer lever by accident. That button cycles through trip computer stuff on the dash, one of them being the "LIMIT --- MPH" setting. Didn't even know that button was there, just got the X5 about 4 weeks ago.

Awntchi - Yes I did install the radio myself. I had the DSP system with navigation so everything is in the back. Had to run the extended eonon harness from the dash to the back. The extended harness runs from the headunit in the dash to the back and plugs into the factory plug that is currently plugged into the radio module near the battery. Then you have to pick up another aftermarket connector to plug back into the radio module (since you unplugged the factory one) and jumper 4 wires, I forgot the exact ones off the top of my head, but at least 2 go the DSP amplifier harness. I have the links to provide more detail on my home computer I can repost for you later.

The additional harness is the metra 71-9003.

Hehe i assumed you had checked with the stalk button...my bad. Mine was frozen, couldn't cycle through anything. Anyways, I'm glad it was a simple button press for you :)

Just an FYI for when you eventually lose electrical power (like dead battery or intentional disconnection of a battery cable)...you will finally loose all of the OBC features that you can now still scroll through by pressing the BC button on the turn indicator stalk.

When all components are original...the high cluster can be programmed to have the OBC features appear in the cluster's display. You can program specific ones that you want...or all of them. The main display for the OBC is the MID or the Nav screen. So when either of those components are no longer installed...you lose the ability to set/reset/start/stop/adjust any OBC features.

Again, as long as you have power...what ever OBC features were programmed to appear in the cluster's 20 digit alpha/numeric display can still be called up for viewing...but you will not be able to change anything or adjust anything (like if the clock is programmed to appear there). And once power is disconnected long enough for memory to be forgotten...the OBC features programmed to appear in the instrument cluster will be gone for good.

Are you referencing the scroll through stalk functions as delivered from the factory?

I recalled on my E34 that one could set the OBC for a speed limit so that the computer will remind you that you have just exceeded the speed limit that you have set.

Yes...and this only applies to the HIGH instrument cluster with the 20 digit alpha/numeric Check Control Display...once the MID or Navscreen is removed...you can no longer reprogram the OBC features to appear in the instrument cluster's display. And you also don't have anyway to set/reset/start/stop/adjust any of the OBC features...and once power is lost...the things programmed into the cluster will be gone...including the CLOCK if you have that programmed to appear in the cluster's display.

This is how you program the OBC features to appear in the instrument cluster if you have the MID...if you have NAV, it's similar except you make the selections from the Nav screen, then select MEMORIZE to save your choices:
