I just got a 03 X5 4.4 and I'm really liking it so far.
I'm looking forward to upgrading some things but I'm wondering if I can buy OE HID with halo and drop them in since mine doesn't have this or is a kit online more feasible? Also I need to upgrade this stereo but I have DSP. I'm looking at the Pioneer NEX models since I want Android Auto but how is the speaker rewiring? Is it a huge pain or pretty normal work? Thanks everyone! http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...5efaeb4c63.jpg |
Welcome to the forum!
Thats an uncommn color X, neat! There are no factory headlights with angel eyes for your X as it started having them only in 2004 with the facelift. You can retrofit angel eyes into your existing lights, and add HID projectors at the same time if your truck is not already equiped. However there is a chance you have permasealed headlights that will make it a b1tc# of a job to do. Another option is to get aftermarket headlight assemblies with projectors and angel eyes already installed. Lots of discussion on options here with a search. The sound system upgrade is also tricky as it involves a few workarounds to get an aftermarket head unit integrated into the system, especially DSP systems with NAV. A search will get you a lot more info, and hopefully some of those who did/are doing it will chime in. Me, I held off considering the amount of work for not much gain IMO. |
Welcome to the forum.. Unless its the picture playing tricks, if you look at the chrome trim on the bottom of the windows above door handles (front and rear door) and follow that line to the rear window, they dont look aligned.
In case the OP hasnt noticed if he bought it has it been in an accident? |
Welcome! Nice looking X5!
03 models will have permasealed headlights. I've opened a set once. It was extremely time consuming. It can be done but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Many here go to Depos. Depo | Aftermarket Headlights | Led Tail Light Replacement | Kbcarstuff.com As for sound system it depends on your goal. If you just want a speaker upgrade, you can do so from Bavsound. Stage One BMW Speaker Upgrade Kit engineered for your specific BMW | BAVSOUND. If you only want to gain features you can do that with a mediabridge. Audiovox - Driven by DICE Electronics LLC - MediaBridge If you want the latest and greatest there are at least 3 options that there have been thread about here. The most popular seems to be this one. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...questions.html |

I ended up buying a new head unit. I'm having it installed now but the guy is saying he can't hook up the two speakers in the passenger side of the trunk.
He's saying those are subs and will mess up the unit without a amp. I thought I read online those are just speakers back there and the subs are under our front seats? Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk |
The Chrome trim may be due to it being removed if the door had a repair, etc. Upon putting it back, it just won't sit right due to the age of the car..
I've replace the shadowline trim, if not the most recently the windshield seal when I had the windshield replaced. |

Here's the new head unit. Still have no connection to the woofers under the seat though or the two speakers in the cargo area

the two speakers in the back cargo area passenger side, are the subs. there are no subs under the seats (that's an e46 thing I suspect!)
there are many write-ups in the how to section about how to add an amp to the system. I have the twin sub as well, just haven't amped it yet! busy with other things! :) best of luck! looks sharp! post details in your signature, it helps others when you have questions! |

Really loving it so far, my 3 year old son just loves chilling in his car seat watching everyone when we cruise  |
I'm looking to upgrade the stock amp, does anyone have any suggestions? I'm taking it a step at a time so the component speakers and subs will be stock for now.

Re: the doors not lining up, it looks to me like they do, but that the trim on the LHS front door has been off and damaged and/or incorrectly replaced. It needs to come off for the window lift mechanism replacement, for example, and is a b*tch not to damage or bend!

OE speakers. I don't believe the impedence is rigght....
|
If the sound system is now head unit straight to speakers, adding an amp will be pretty much a standard install.
As mentioned IIRC the speakers of the DSP system are not standard impedance...but if a head unit can drive them any amp should be able to. Sub I am not sure, need to check impedance on those and see if the amp you are thinking of can drive them. If I'd gone as far as replacing the head unit I'd be seriously looking at changing the speakers too if I added an amp. |
IME, a Active Ground Loop Isolater is a Huge Requirement - but with any HU change, a good amp is going in...
|
So the rear woofers in the cargo area were not hooked up when the new unit was put in.
I haven't had a chance to research amps yet and probably won't replace any speakers for awhile. Shouldn't the 6.5 inch woofers be ok to go without a amp using the decks built in amp? Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk |
