How a PWM signal work.
 
Not a BMW, but it shows how other manufacturer like Chrysler uses a PWM signal to control their radiator fan. I wonder if you could use that Chrysler relay with a Spal fan so you don't have to buy the over priced radiator fan.

He says that the Chrysler uses a PWM ground signal where the BMW uses a positive PWM. Would need to find out what the base frequency for the PWM is also, they'd have to match.

I believe the pwm signal used by BMW is also a negative signal.
