Ac not working, Checked Refrigerant, What else to do?
 

I just bought a BMW x5 2003.
AC is not working I tried added refrigerant, but the PSI level was already in more than green (in yellow zone)
so I tried to empty the refrigerant and refill it again ( I thought maybe the old one is not good) and I filled it up to yellow zone ( which is about 50 PSI )


I don't see any leak, what is the next item I can check ? (on my previous cars whenever I turned on the AC I would hear the compressor noise, this one makes no noise whatsoever...) is there anything I can do myself without mechanic?

Get some BMW software and scan the truck for trouble code. Only emission trouble code will turn on the MIL or SES light. Other trouble codes will just be in the memory of the modules.

Or you can start throwing parts at it like everyone else does.

I have a generic OBDII bluetooth device and a torque pro app, would that work ?

and also I wanted to say I dont any warning in the console,

Get software that can read all the modules in the BMW. OBD II and Torque Pro does not read any of the BMW specific module like climate control.

Hope you didn't vent all that refrigerant to the atmosphere. from your questions I get the impression you aren't familiar with AC work. Suggest getting it looked at by a qualified shop

The only info we have is that there is refrigerant in the system and the compressor wont engage. There are lots of reasons that could be...simple things like blown fuses (that can be caused by not-so-simple problems), the compressor itself, system/vehicle shared sensors, system ECU, related vehicle systems like the engine cooling fan, and so on.

As mentioned, getting it scanned with a BMW-specific scanner will go a long way in narrowing it down some.

Since he didn't bother to post any pressure readings other than it's in the yellow, I kindas think he using an ac fix in a can. More destruction of the atmosphere.

If he thinks refrigerant get old, than you are right, he doesn't know a lot about ac system.

Suggest getting it looked at by a qualified shop.

I had the same problem last month. I took it to get evacuated and refilled and they told me that my a/c compressor was bad. I told them to just to evacuated again so that I can replace it myself. Ordered a compressor kit on ebay for $169 that included everything. It took me about an hour and a half to replace it and 45min -1 hour for the shop to pull vacuum and add refrigerant again. Problem solved. I also replaced my aux fan becuase it was dead. My a/c blows cold now!

Last year, I had the same A/C issue and upallnight kindly checked it for me using his software. He also checked the refrigerant which was fine but he found out the auxiliary fan was fried. I got it replaced and A/C worked great again.

I'm surprised nobody has killed themselves from DIY freon kits.
