where is the location of air intake tube ? (help me put it back)

I was doing a DIY to replace my AUX cooling fan then I ended up find this under the car, I have no idea where is the location of it.

the part number is 7503886

btw what happens if I drive the car without this part ?
here is a pic of it

The round end of that duct fits into the round end of the alternator duct.

There's a scoop on top of the radiator and the rounded rectangular par goes on it and the rounded connects to the bottom of the Air muffler (air filter housing).
All on the passenger side of Left Hand Drive Xs.

Edit. After checking the Realoem I find that the rubber boot I was referring to on 4.4i M62 engines has both ends round. That said, you should have a 3.0 engine and this should still be the same part but in the different location.

Dyanich, yes it does look like the duct between the air scoop and air box.

I think it's the other way though...the round end fits onto the scoop on top of the radiator, and the oval end fits into the bottom of the air filter housing.

pwvarley 05-01-2016 01:11 AM

Yup, it goes from the scoop on the front of the car under the shroud and connects to the bottom of the air filter housing.

You're missing a few digits in front of the part number.

You can buy back the part on ebay and it tells you that the part is the air duct for the alternator.

Watch out for all the Cliff Clavins on this forum, you can get slit.

:D

That is for the alternator, not airbox.

g300d 05-01-2016 07:08 AM

Ugh, yeah, the part number points to the alternator air duct.

Thats why my post said "looks like" though. :D

It's lots of fun to re-install this too. :)

Get some silicone spray so it will slide right in.

hm...do I need to go under the car to put it back or I can do it by opening the hood?

oldskewel 05-01-2016 11:06 AM

I R+R'ed this from above when repairing the alternator in my '01 3.0i. Pop the hood. A couple of minutes to remove all the easy intake stuff. Then, as others have mentioned, prepare for a difficult wrestling match getting this in place. From my experience, there are no secrets to doing it, but it is not easy. The silicone spray tip from upallnight sounds like a good one.

Joshdub 05-01-2016 12:19 PM

No, it clips into some more plastic. below the alternator.
