Panoramic Sunroof Lube?
Hi All,
I'm doing some routine maintence on my X5 with the Pano Sunroof. It seems to run ok at the moment but I wish to clean out the tracks and drains so after this I want to clean and re-lube the tracks. I can't seem to find much information about which lube is suitable for the X5 sunroof. On my old Benz I just used white lithium grease and that worked ok. I've heard that an industrial grade clear silicone grease is suitable. Would any of these work ok? I'm not 100% sure on which parts need greasing. I can see the tracks, however i'm sure there is more to the story! |
Any good silicon grease will do (BMW recommend it), but some owners like to use white lithium grease.
Apply grease to the track grooves with a small artist paintbrush or cotton swab. Make sure the tracks are nice & clean before applying the lube, though. |
I clean everything with alcohol, then apply a light coat of lithium grease. Also grease door/hood/tailgate hinges, door striker pivot pins, wiper pivot arms/shaft bushings, steering shaft joints, hood/tailgate latch mechanisms, at least once a year.

Just a quick update.
Ended up using some of this stuff here: https://www.masters.com.au/product/9...Grease-LM10302 Just used a soft brush to lubricate all of the tracks and movable parts I could see up there. Hopefully it holds out ok. If this fails i'll go and buy some lithium grease spray. Thanks for the tips guys! |
