Is my pano sunroof missing something?
Guys,
I've been doing a little reading on the E53 panoramic sunroof as mine has developed an annoying knocking noise (see video below). From what I can tell one of the major issues associated with this sunroof is the tilt function on the rear glass panel. Most people are actually disabling this by removing two hex bolts on the rear. I had a look at mine in the garage and on mine only the front (larger) glass panel tits up and down. I was under the impression that both the front and rear sunroof panels are meant to tilt? I just purchased the car so i'm wondering if the previous owner has done something to stop this, as the screws are still installed. So, i've included a video of my sunroof in action and from what I can tell it seems to be missing the mechanism to tilt the rear panel. Can anybody shed some light on this? I'd love if somebody could send me or link a video of their sunroof from the inside of their car. Moreover, i've attached a video of the sunroof knock that i've been experiencing. It seems to be related the front glass panel and its right above the drivers seat which is so bloody annoying. Excuse the night time video, not much light in the garage and i'm working during the day. Sunroof Knock Video: https://youtu.be/_g5sVcuPx78 Sunroof Tilt Video: https://youtu.be/22YcGikwOQE Regards |

Your sunroof may have already had this DIY rear panel deactivation.

This is going to sound stupid but you need to put a piece of electric tape on a part of the plastic rails.
I posted a video on youtube how to do it and what it does. PS: sometimes my spelling SUCKS cause I'm using a touchscreen device. |

I use red electric tape to show where you have to put it on the rails. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...f-problem.html the last post shows what I did in words, and a link to my video on youtube IS there, but apparently the video is no longer on youtube. But if you search vids on youtube enough about the pano moonroof rattle I'm sure you'll see how the part gets fixed/modified with elec tape. |

Thanks for the info. The last post said you fixed it with red tape but it doesn't outline how you actually fixed it and where the tape was stuck. Any info would be much appreciated. |
I will see if I can get a picture tomorrow. It's documented here in the forum somewhere.
