Offset is the distance between the the centerline (imaginary) of the wheel to the mounting surface of that wheel.

Tires will be completely wrong size for your E53. You can sell them off to recoup some money. Unless you really want them, get them.
They aren't my choice for an E53.

Be aware of the lower load rating!

I run a set of aftermarket E46 M3 wheels (8.5/9.5), I went with these for lower unsprung weight (a rear wheel/tire assembly is under 50lbs). The downside, 5000lb load limit has me installing OE 18s when trailering with passengers and/or cargo.

More than welcome to search, i posted pics. And youre still agreeing with me. I'll stop now, because the only advice worth taking on here comes from you and you alone. Youre awsome at offsets.

TiAgX5's point about tires/wheels and load is worth considering. I know opinions vary about wheel appearance, and I won't dive into the deep end of the 'wheel offset' pool, but, depending on how you use your X5, I'd be careful about putting 'sportier' M3 wheels on a 3.0 X5 if its used, as mine is, as an upscale bavarian sport tractor [occasionally pulling a 5k+ trailer load]. Safety first!

The OP is based in NYC.

The road conditions in NYC would have me avoiding lighter/failure prone wheels.
