Door stuck after carrier replaced
 

Hi,

I spent some time changing the rear door handle carrier, as the door couldn't be opened from the outside. I had done this for the front door and had no issues.

I closed the door before replacing the door card, which seems like a 'lucky' thing to have done. I am now unable to open the door using either the inside, or outside doors levers (inside is the piece that connects to the handle as the card isn't on). I can reach inside door still and see that both handles/cables are moving the correct parts and have tried doing this by hand to do it with a little more force.....but the door still won't open.

It seem as if the door is locked, although the actuator seems to be moving and the knob is going up and down when I lock and unlock the car.

Is there any other way to manually open the door? Could the actuator not actually be unlocking the door? Can it be manually triggered?

Any help would be appreciated......

The short cable from the new carrier... have you correctly snapped the end into the ball socket on actuator? Is the collar on the cable snapped into place on the actuator?

Hi, all cables are connected and so is the collar....even by moving the parts manually that these are connected to, I still can't get it to open.

is it after market , sometimes after market cables are to long, I was reading a post on this a few months back.

The part is genuine and don't think the part is the problem, as I mentioned I can reach into the door (as the internal door card is still off) and manually trying to move the parts directly that open the door don't seem to open anything. Is there a way to make sure that the actuator/central locking part is actually unlocking the door (the knob is popping up and down) as it feels locked......

I`m thinking its the lock actuator now, I dont know how your going to open the door . your positive your moving the linkages right on the actuator ?

Yep - following the way that the parts move if pulled by the cable.

Unless the door has the child lock on it, although I did check this before closing and I am not moving the internal pin on the actuator enough.....

Can you bypass this, or manually override?

I just minipulated your issue with my old lock actuator out of bmw. can you do me a favor and unplug and reconnect the electrical connector going to actuator, I think you need power going to it for it to release. I only replaced mine because the actuator was getting tired (slow)

with child lock the outside handle should stil work.

Thanks - I will have a go at that when I get home. I think there is power going to it as the knob is going up and down and it is clicking when using central locking to lock and unlock.....might reset something if I disconnect.
