Webasto Telestart Kit
Hi Everyone, Okay... I am ready for a hiding to nothing from everyone because this is quite a posted topic. But, I need some clarity and a lot of the threads I have read run off on some bizarre tangent about Squirrels or the best way to make homebrew.
So. If I can get some answers I will do a write up and post photos and send my thanks in return (maybe even a photo of a London Squirrel!). What I guess everyone needs to know from the start is that I have a Webasto Heater in my 2004 (face lift) X5 E53 and it has the water pump thing etc... I do not have Nav/TV installed I have BMW CD/OBC instead so can't comment on the Aux Vent / Heat debate as I can't see it having no Nav/TV. Questions are 1. Do I need to have anything coded, if I am just going to ADD the Telestart Remote Kit? i.e. I am just going to do some electrical wiring and install the kit? 2. Found a couple of links, Simple one way radio switch from Maplin (Radioshack to our US brothers) Via the Pin 1 out of the webasto heater by the engine and run powers, fuse, control box accordingly. Get a Telestart kit, Modify Pin Plug to fit in Rear Boot (Trunk), install antenna and then that is it, plug and play! 1. Parking heater remote start- Enabling Parking heater remote start- Enabling 2. Adding telestart t91 Adding telestart t91 So, I would like some advice on, if I don't need to code, the easier job seems to be option 2, I have a budget of £150 (Post-Brexit its about $150) so it seems I can afford a Telestarter Kit and do option 2? Thank you and happy Friday to you all. Lamby. |
I recently made this mod myself - have a read of this: -

Sir, your are a legend. Thank you. I see you are on the Beautiful South Island. Next time I am in Welli there is a Cold Beer for you if you want to pop over.

I lived in Wellywood for a while (in the late 1970's) and still get back there occasionally. Great town. Beers sounds good! ;) |
So, I have ordered the same switch from the bay of flees.... I will wait for it to turn up then have a go at making a loom for the boot connector and install in the same place. I will draw up a wiring diagram before I start and if its okay can you check it to see if its same way you did it?

Hey Lamby, here ya go.
First diagram is the OEM Webasto T-series remote receiver (A128). https://i.ibb.co/jzsCbZ9/BMW-E53-A128.jpg You can ignore the extra wire on A128 - labelled X01119 - that's the factory aerial connection to A128. And here is how I wired in the eBay 12V 315M unit receiver... https://i.ibb.co/NpDT4FG/BMW-E53-315-M.jpg Hope that's clear and helps you. |
I like the option with original key! Press 2 or 3 times and it starts to work :) but it is another different kit!

Just a quick nudge on this post, a huge thank you for the diagram. I am still awaiting the Peoples Republic of China to send me my Remote Timer... but at only a few bucks, I can not complain. Soon as it here I will get it fitted. By then, it will be cold in London! :S

I'm charging the car's battery overnight at least once every couple of weeks, just to make sure it's OK. No need if your daily runs are long but advisable with short runs. |
