Upper/Lower/Steering/Sway Bars E53

Hi everyone,

I have a 2002 4.4i E53, with 155,000 Miles (250,000 KM). I have an issue with the left steering control arm, so ordered up 2 new ones to be safe.

My question - I've watched lots of videos on the replacement, but now I'm wondering if I should replace the upper and lower control arms and sway bars for preventative maintenance at the same time? They 'seem' ok - but.

My main reason for thinking to do so - I don't know if I would have to 'remove' the steering arm to get to the upper/lower arms, I really don't want to have to R&R the steering arm more than once.

Thank you,

John

From what I'm reading in the Bentley manual you don't have to remove the steering arm. Highly recommend purchasing the Bentley manual.

If you are replacing the sway bar links, you need to get both wheels off the ground. Having one wheel on the ground will transfer weight of the car through the sway bar and you will not be able to ge the link off or back on.

I prefer to replace it all at once.

Fwiw sway bars are not really wear items but the end links are.
