Radio / clock display issue, missing partial

Parts of numbers do not show on radio/clock display. Is this ea easy fix?

yes and no.
you need a special soldering tool (so you must know how to solder) you can buy on ebay for about $10 and then you need to buy the ribbon that connects from crystal display to motherboard.
a few companies offer lifetime warranties on getting it done if you ship it to them. usually a 5 day turnaround for about $150-200.

The MID display needs to be replaced. This guy is local (a couple of hours drive to Round Lake Illinois and he can remove and replace the display in the MID in a couple of hours.

Or you can remove the display and send it to him.

It's not easy, but it's not that difficult either, also you don't really need the special soldering tool.
I've done couple MID pixel repairs successfully with $5 cable from ebay.
There are bunch of how to in youtube and google, just follow the steps and you should be good.

What do you mean by $5 cable?
I checked some youtube videos and it doesn't look like it has anything to do with the cable but you'd need to really disassemble the unit and peel off the old MID to replace it.

Search for "bmw e53 mid pixel ribbon cable" on ebay.

The MID (Multi-Functional Information Display) is the WHOLE unit - what you're referring to as the radio/clock display. The LCD inside is connected via a ribbon cable, and the connections to this cable go bad.

You can replace just the ribbon cable or the cable with the display attached or you can send the MID unit away to have the cable (or display and cable) replaced if you feel this is too hard to DIY.

I have to do this job myself one day soon...
