^Good to know. Seems like I am going to have fun trying to find ACTUAL comfort glass when the time comes. Not that they aren't available, but getting someone to actually get the right glass sounds like the issue. As mentioned above, probably due to the multiple glass options offered by BMW originally.

Or, I could walk into a BMW parts dept with part number and bend over? lol.

presuming at the age, spend the extra and replace the side rubber trim. its held on by tension, similar to the door seals. new top trim comes with glass by default

Glass installers need to be told, if it has the green band, DO NOT INSTALL.

My wife has ours at work with her so I can not go look at this second but it appears that BMW is stating that there still is the shade band at the top...

"Description

For vehicles with
Climate comfort windscreen S358A = Yes
AND
Rain sensor S521A = Yes
“Green windscreen, SHADE BAND + rain sensor” … 51 31 7 064 863" BMW ETK is the source.:stickpoke

That is what I thought... New top trim is an entirely SEPARATE part. https://www.ecstuning.com/ES93002/
I found this out before my install date because my insurance would not cover OE on this. They wanted to use the roll of generic stuff the installers carry on their trucks. I said NO WAY and just ate the $25 from the dealer and had it on had on install day. I never researched the side seals but mine were in perfect shape, so no worries...

Well since we KNOW now the OE with roundel comfort glass is made by PGW - all one needs to do is provide the Safelite (or other) glass shop with the PGW glass part number (assuming you have rain sensor) that is on both the OE comfort glass and the PGW branded comfort glass and you will get the same glass! I doubt very much that the non-roundel PGW glass is any different if the same part #

See my links on post #4 - the PGW part number evidenced on OE and PGW brand glass is-

43R-00029 - you should be able to take that part number to your glass shop or Safelite and get either the original BMW glass or the PGW branded - again, I don't believe there is going to be a huge difference besides BMW logo - similar to getting Genuine BMW axle replacements and the GKN Loebro branded ones, Lemforder suspension parts vs. "Genuine" both are made by Lemforder, etc.

As a follow up, I went out to check my 9/2003 manufactured OE windshield which has a roundel - the OE manufacturer of my glass in 2003 was actually PPG! So BMW seems to have done a few switches over the years.

Yes RB you are correct on the spelling of the glass PilKington.

bhenrich -

yeah, depends how ocd u get. New trim does make it fit ~snugger~ but without a expense.... Especially when they need to remove it off the glass and then the semi fatigued metal needs to grip back on. Fatigue is a bad word to analogize it....

No if the glass has a green band on top and no IR film then its a no go. Should have a silverish hue to the glass.

I got confused there reading a prior post with the BMW glass list.

So, the silver/blue tint on the entire glass surface makes it the correct glass.

Yes exactly. The part that really made this confusing has to do with the BMW part number that the glass vendor uses. At the safeLite here in the DFW area the BMW part number for comfort glass produces a glass that does not have the IR shielding/film within the glass. So you would have to find a vendor that carries the PG branded glass and you would have a better shot at getting the IR shielding/film since they yield the comfort glass for BMW. Then you would have to visually verify. Outside of this process just order comfort glass from BMW.
