Part way thought the model life, the manufacturers often make a few changes to either improve the car or improve sales - usually both.

In late 2003, BMW started building facelift E53 models. New headlights and taillights, grills, bumpers, engine updates, new XDrive system and a few other things.

Have a read of this...

The one above is for pre-facelift - they make a version for the facelift models (10/03-06) also.

+1

but in all seriousness, I would rather dip than buy another set for $80+ when dip costs about $5 (in the states ($20 in canada :dunno:) )

^$20 is still better than $80 :D

Also, there have been reports of bad fit on some aftermarket grills. I would check the reviews before getting an aftermarket set.

Yup, same here. One can of dip has enough for other trim pieces too and emblems. I dipped mine and along with the other grey trim and rear emblems.

I see we're on the same page because mine will be looking almost identical to yours (the entire front end) but only a couple differences. Is your grill matte or gloss? also the only difference between both grills are the fins style right?

looking great

What! You doing the complete front end facelift?Thought you just asking about the types of grill available!I just fitted the grill!Hard work and patience but well worth it :)
If you double check post #2 , TiAgX5,has kindly posted a photo with the differences! The Facelift grill is obviously much bigger!
The fins on the facelift grill are what really updates it.

oh no i'm just talking about the look between the black grill & black housing headlights, i'm just swapping out the grill & headlights. what's involved in getting the 04 to fit on an 03?

I thought the only difference were the fin designs but it is bigger?

Its bigger and needs the hood to be cut .See my last post .

O3X5 09-09-2016 11:35 AM

link's not working. I am now interested in finding out how to make it fit myself!

O3X5 09-09-2016 11:40 AM

ohhh it's gotta be cut. yea i'll pass on that, a lot more work than i'm interested in doing just to fit the grill. thanks though! i'll go back to my original idea but I think it'll look just as good as yours, i hope lol.

powers1 09-09-2016 03:59 PM

See page 538,539 of the link title.
