2000 x5 4.4 Oil Pan Gasket Replace
Hey All, Can't find any specific post or info on replacing the oil pan gasket on my 2000 x5 4.4. Original problem discovered was the stripped oil pan plug, It spins both ways. tried prying it off while un screwing no luck. even had a the local mechanic try, no luck either. seems only option is to replace oil pan. I ordered new gasket, oil pan and bolt.
Had question if I needed to add any RTV to the metal gasket and torque specs. my plan is to drop the oil level sensor to drain the oil, drop the pan, replace pan, gasket and bolt. Any tips or details on successfully replacing this gasket? thx! J |
Technically, you are replacing the lower oil pan. Just to be clear
The oil level sensor has a weird seal. If you disturb it, I would replace that seal as well. The Bentley manual gives three torque specs. I recall realizing I had only one size fastener. Guess they changed during production, so you have to measure and read the markings on the head. M6 8.8 grade 7 ft-lbs M6 10.9 grade 9 ft-lbs M8 8.8 grade 16 ft-lbs No spec given for the nuts on the oil level sensor. The Bentley manual also says to use new bolts as they are coated with sealer. Hey David,
thanks for replying in the info. Any sealant needed over that metal gasket? gonna take your advice and pick up that level sensor gasket and bolts. |
Pretty sure I used hylomar sealant. I'm a big fan of hylomar - tacky to help with fit up and doesn't harden. The book doesn't say anything about sealant.
