Rear Coil Spring Write UP ?
I have to install a pair of tourtech springs on Monday. They say to use a spring compressor. But my last email said "no special tools" SO I have to assume that I need to disconnect the linkages from the upper cradle to lower it and fit the spring in and then raise/compress with a jack? Then bolt everything up.
Is the ample space to maneuver the spring and reattach the upper arm nut/bolt? It's a bear with the air spring in place. Thanks :dunno: |
I just did it so it's possible although it's tight fit.
Yes, after you remove air spring and detach both arms from cradle, there is just enough room to squeeze the spring in. And yes, then you use suitable jack to slowly lift cradle and atach the shock. Look at my Bilstein install and you'll see few pictures. |
Great. Did you slide the spring in through open arm area and down onto the cradle base?
Do you connect the spring support to the base of the spring before sliding through and then bolt it to the cradle from the bottom? What about the top? Will the rubber fitting stay in place while you tilt the spring straight up? Was there any issues with how the spring in top and bottom? BTW, can't find you pics. Thanks so much.. Going to tear out the interior today. |
One more question, very important. The coil kit seems to be missing a part that connects the top of the spring to the mount. It has the lower cradle attachment parts but nothing for the top. Am I supposed to use something from the old air spring? I can't imagine the spring sit up top metal to metal.
Thanks J |

The easiest way that worked for me was installing both spring pads in the cradle and top body first (not onto spring) then make sure that top of the springs lines up with upper pad while simultaneously pushing the cradle down and fitting the bottom of the spring over lower spring pad hump. There are some pics in my main write up and in the write up where ecs tuning sent me wrong springs. |
Ready roll tomorrow. I have worked this rear end before. Your link is broken, takes you to ebay. I may do some pics. Looks like I might be able to slide them up through the space with little dis-assemblage. Thanks
