Coilovers cause damage to Torque Converter?

I was just told by an indie mechanic that he was strongly against replacing the air suspension with coilovers because in his opinion it put more strain on the transfer case and would over a short period of time cause damage. Anyone else heard this?

Thanks!

I call BS on this one. Find another indy. This one doesn't know what he's talking about. The air bags are simply a different form of spring. If what he was saying was true all of the X5's without airbags would be suffering premature transfer case failure. I haven't seen anything anywhere indicating that to be the case.

I'm so glad I work on my own car.

Ask him the physics behind that one.

He probably knows that once the conversion is done he won't see you again for a long time 😂

There lies the problem.
To many hacks call themselves Indy and they don't even have adequate education to begin with.
I guarantee you he can adequately calculate parts surcharge and ballooned labor time.

There are plenty of Cliff Clavin in the real world just like there are plenty of Cliff Clavin on this forum.

Probably told you that to make more money since air suspension & it's parts cost more. I hope so at least because it's not true at all.

stryker14 09-29-2016 07:45 AM

I thought it was fishy. I do work on my own car, I was buying parts from him. Thanks for the replies!
