gauge cluster computer?

Is the cluster controlled by it's own module or is it part of another? After disconnecting mine to install the led bulbs the cons1 mode has been active, before it just pretty much stayed at 17.0 but now it's real time like my '06 passat was. Thanks

It was always "real time," but it wasn't instantaneous mpg because it was averaging all the miles driven since it was last reset. It was reset when you disconnected it so it has fewer miles to average which makes it seem instantaneous for awhile. It will get back to staying at around 17.0mpg after you drive it for a few fuel tanks.

I've had the x for 4 months now & it was never active as it is now. It never changed from 17.4 then recently dropped to 17 whether in the city or on highway, that's it. Now it's up & down in real time with the speed.

Question though, what's cons2 for? My passat had 2 settings, real time & overall mpg. Is this the same?

CONS1 and CONS2 work the same way (averaging fuel/distance) but can be reset separately.

I use CONS1 as a per tank measure and I leave CONS2 alone, for a long term average.

Pulling the battery or cluster will reset them both, and yeah, right after a reset they change fast, like they are instantaneous. The only instantaneous measure of consumption is the gauge on the cluster (if you have one).

If you reset cons 1 it will show almost real time for consumption for the first part of the tank. As you get further in it won't be instantaneous.

I reset cons 1 every time I fill up. Cons 2 I leave alone to get a long term over all reading.

How do you reset it? My BC is problematic.

Oh ok Yea I have the high.

Press BC - CONS1 - SET or BC - CONS2 - SET.

Assuming your MID buttons work... if not, pulling the battery or cluster will reset both CONS1 and CONS2 to zero. ;)

my MID's bc controls are not currently working which in return turns the bc into a useless function as I can not set any of it. Eventually going to upgrade to an Eonon unit but my question is would it take away the MID controls? I assume so

Sorry, I didn't get that you were asking how to reset the values you can read on the cluster, not the MID.

All these values are actually calculated and stored in the cluster and the MID unit is really only a remote set of buttons and a remote display. Unfortunately, while there is a second BC button on the stalk, controlling the computer data that can be displayed on the cluster, there's no way to set or reset anything without a functioning MID (or a factory NAV unit).

I dont think any aftermarket units such as an Eonon can access the computer values to either display them or reset them.

Maybe a MID repair would be a good solution here?
