M54B30 MS43 DME update?

In helping my son with his '03 E46, I've come across quite a bit of discussion of a DME software update for the MS43 DME. Which has me wondering... Is this something I should also consider for my DME? I'm about 99% sure the update has not been done on the car, since I doubt the previous owner would have done such. I don't really have any complaints about the performance of the engine, having nearly 175k on it.

Does anyone have any experience with updating MS43 DME's?

Do you mean tuning? Or flashing the firmware for an MS43 unit?

Updating the DME software with a reflash. I'm not interested in any tuning, just solving / preventing the 2800 rpm stutter.

Updating software is one of the avenues many pursue in trying to solve elusive gremlins.

I've seen some success stories online for any number of symptoms.

I would see no problem with it if the update is a factory revision done by someone qualified and can stand behind it like a dealer or trusted indy.

I would definitely have the DME reflash done by a trusted indy shop. What I'm hoping to find is anyone else who has done this for their E53 M54. I've read much over on E46Fanatics by guys who have done this for their E46's. Was wondering if there's benefit in doing it for my E53. I'm looking forward to the possibility of deleting my SAP and installing new headers and removing my cats. I understand an EU2 DME reflash would allow me to do all of that.

Yes the EU2 flash would do it - Gary if there is anyone local that has Winkfp and the DIS software and is comfortable doing it it could be done for free using that -

Or you could just flash your DME to the latest software map -

Side note I may be moving in your neck of the woods, my wife and I are visiting Greenville SC in January for a possible move within the next 12-14 months, maybe we'll have to get together!

Thanks for the tip RB!

If you do decide to move down here to God's country, you'll wonder why you didn't do it earlier! Let me know if you do, we'll definitely have to get together!

I'll shoot you the dates when I have my flight booked - trust me I've been checked out of the communist peoples republic of NJ for quite a few years, its getting my wife on board - visited Raleigh NC she wasn't a fan (felt too much like up here), she wants to be near the mountains so your area just may be the ticket -

I've found a treasure trove of information on the topic over on e46fanatics. I'll be sharing my experience with this endeavor as things progress. Stay tuned.

Looking forward to it Gary! I have a Conforti Shark Injector so I can always uninstall it, then update my DME and re-flash the new "updated" DME with the Shark
