Factory BMW Aux Input Kit Complete DIY E53 X5

I made this video last year but for some reason never posted it here! Here's a complete guide to installing the factory auxiliary audio input kit into an E39/E46/E53. Super easy and is under $40!

Really good DIY video. My 4.6 came with this exact kit but the aux port is in the glove box. Currently, the setup does not work. I tried to select 'mode' but AUX never comes up. I'll probably need to open up everything and check the wiring behind the navigation. I tried doing a quick fuse swap and that didn't work either. Could be a loose wire.

Thanks for this. Doing this today on my X5 and the wife's X3.

Not sure but I think the Aux mode will only come up if something is actually plugged into the Aux port first.

I installed my OEM kit this weekend and have the same problem. I can't get it to switch to aux mode. I am making sure to have my phone plugged into it providing a signal. I double checked that I have the right kit and my car is 11/02 production. I haven't had any more time to troubleshoot it yet. Any suggestions?

What kit did you get?

I have no nav and this is the non nav kit.

I followed instructions included with the kit, but the instructions had a yellow wire whereas my kit had a brown wire. The instructions in the YouTube video above were what I followed instead.

Note that my car has a 6 disk changer in the trunk, and the unit in the top part of the dash merely had a tape player in it.

That tape player may change things - not sure I've seen anything about adding the aux. input to the tape player head unit.

The Business and Professional CD player units (in the dash) actually house the electronics for the stereo amplifier etc. (on cars with no DSP) and this is why the aux. input connects into the back of the in-dash CD Player - these units have an aux. input.

I'll look into the wiring diagrams and see if I can determine if the in-dash head unit with a tape player is the same. :dunno:

It had the same connectors and wire colors as the one in the video, fwiw.

Thanks for your help!
