Flaking Finish on Sport Steering Wheel Spoke

FYI if anyone out there has a sport steering wheel with the black finish flaking off or scratching easily, this appears to be a warranty-covered item, as my dealer just warranty-replaced the center spoke/plastic bezel. After dealing with VW on a Touareg  (don't get me started on a posting violation) arbitration and buyback, it is really nice feel like BMW takes care of folks.

I just noticed a small (1/4"X1/4") flake coming off mine...and every time a clean it, more comes loose. It's very obvious as the color underneath is white as opposed to the black trim piece. I'm taking it into the dealer shortly for some other items. Anyone else get this replaced recently by the dealer under warranty?

yes, I replaced my wheel twice already, and is covered by warranty.
I been using the new trim for a while now and it hasnt fade at all, maybe bmw came up a solution on the plastic?

I replaced it too, but my dealer didn't warranty it!!!!! Now I'm upset.

Dealers seem to be very inconsistent in regards to replacing trim pieces under warranty. Best bet is to try a few other dealers until you find one that would do it, but it's a PITA and is only worth it if the trim piece(s) is expensive. Else, it's much wiser to just replace it on your own dime.

In case they don't replace it...how much is that trim piece?

Same here...two replacements under warranty. Dealer had no issues doing it, so I am sure it is covered.

Around $120 at Canadian dealers.
