My answer in post #6 may be relevant for you. When I wrote that post, I assumed that the OP knew about the first pull being to unlock and the second one to open. So I was talking about the case when it just won't open with multiple pulls.

For me, it did not happen too often where it would not open on the second pull, but it's a safety issue so I'm glad I fixed it. My guess is there was something not assembled quite right by my previous owner who apparently did his own door carrier repair.
