From 03 face to 04 and up face...
Hi I'm new to this post just recently purchase a 03 X5 4.4 black on black. Will have pics soon 😊.
I was considering changing the front to the 04 and up face lift is that possible? I know the bumpers their friend I believe side friend there's a difference and headlights is the hood different is it possible to just bolt on? Or should I just leave the 03 face and call it a day?.. |
Unless you get the parts already painted for super cheap it would be easier to just buy a facelift.

The "facelift" was actually much more than just a facelift. BMW call it a "Life Cycle Impulse" or LCI and while the cosmetic changes are the obvious differences, there are many mechanical differences too.
Cosmetically, the updated front end includes the hood (bonnet), the grills, the headlights, the bumper, the left and right fender and a few other minor parts. There's also likely to be a few changes in the air ducts etc. behind the bumper. Quite a project! |
Yeah paint is gonna be pricey even if you get the parts cheap.
But yeah, it'll all bolt on if you really want to. Dont forget the tail lights! |
Yeah never mind lol.

Down in flames goes this dream........:explode:

Yeah. Idk if I'm gonna do that anytime soon. But I'll definitely keep all the info you guys gave me in mind. Thanks again guys...
List of what needs to be done asap. Front end suspension Springs and struts are good. Valve cover gasket leak. (small leak) Passenger internal door handle. Rear driver door window regulator. Change transmission and motor oil. And tune up |
"Change transmission and motor oil".........and trans filter, and brake fluid, and T'case fluid, and diff fluid, and power steering fluid, and coolant.
I spent a whole weekend (post-purchase) with the X on jackstands, swapping fluids/filters. |
Yeah. That's the same thing I'll have to do. I just did the coolant last week and new bmw battery.
I love the 03 e53 4.4 one of the best cars ever made. I'm also looking into getting my rough idle fixed trying to figure out what it is. |
Easy stuff, just use the articles above to provide an overview on DIY as everyone has been there and done that before. Getting a good baseline of your vehicle will help you with peace of mind at the minimum.
General Service Oil Changes frequency of the changes is probably more important than anything else. Lots of postings in that dept on this forum. Oil/Air/Cabin Pick OE, Mann Plugs 4.4 use the NGK fine wire ones - Iridium IX Spark Plug NGK BKR6EIX Part Number: 739-BKR6EIX. Fuel Filter (don't forget this one!) Brakes- Flush fluid if pads are ok. Tires - Balance them! Suspension- X5 eat thrust arms, use the HD Meyle or research the Poly versions. At 100K everything is on the way out. Better to do all than to do one part at a time. Detail and wax often. Smile as you drive! There is always more to do.....The forum is here with tips and ticks and a few off hand remarks anytime. |
Thanks a lot for the tips. Yeah I like to do things my self just like you said to know your car. Every out car I had did most of the work, unless it's was some crazy shit lol.
This page is awesome thanks bro |
