Onto bigger and better things...

Well guys,

I have to say, I am mighty happy that I finally got rid of my X5.
I was very happy when I bought it for myself on my 30th birthday in 2014 but I think I'm even happier now that I sold it. It was a pleasure to drive but it was also a giant pain in the ass and the most unreliable vehicle I've ever owned and I've owned 11 now. Nearly every time I drove it, something went wrong.
I have to say, it was a giant piece of crap and to anyone out there thinking of buying a e53. Do not do it.
Well, now that I've got that off my chest, I would like to express my thanks to you guys for your help and advice during my ownership and many issues. If it wasn't for this forum, I wouldn't have got the ignition switch/airbag/srs/seat belt light issue dealt with. Even my indy couldn't figure it out and they are very good, so that says alot.
Anyways, i'm rambling, good luck to you all!
Peace

German brands in general are high maintenance that prefer finer things in life. Anyways congrats on getting out of your love hate relationship.

squidzilla 11-18-2016 11:47 AM

Good luck with things. With these off warranty BMW's the passion for them has to be high enough to endure the hand holding these cars require at times.

Anhelenuk 11-18-2016 05:09 PM

For me it's cheaper to keep her. What it cost to repair it I can only lease an accord and it's not the same thing honestly.

Good luck...maybe rekindle the BMW passion with another model.......later on if you decided to own and drive one again!

Bye........for now!:D

But what are you replacing it with?

I second that, no other car brand will come close to the driving style of BMW's, not even other German manufacturers. I really dislike AMGs and Audi S models. Uncomparable to the ultimate driving machine. Just wondering, how much did you sell it for if you don't mind me asking?

I'm not so sure about that. I'd say my s5 is a hell of a lot more fun to drive than my x5

Have you ever put your s5 against an M5?

I've driven both. Both are fun. The RS6 is more comparable to the M5. The S5 is in-between the 335i and m3.

OP, can't say I blame you!

Yeah, what are you replacing it with?

They don't make the S5 in sedans do they? I thought the s4 was like the m3? The only s model I ever liked was a 2014 s8. That thing is smooth and pullls.

The S5 is basically a two door S4. Audi's competitor with the M3 is the RS4 (and RS5). The S models are one tier below the RS models.

Lol I own both so I frequent both. Both brands offer different driving experiences and I find both fun.

Hey guys,
Don't get me wrong, it was fun to drive I just never felt like taking it on far trips cause something always went wrong.

As for what I'm replacing it with, well a 2013 F150, no payments, no insurance bills, no gas, no maintenance. Also known as a truck provided by my work. I've had a work truck nearly the same time I had the BMW so the BMW rarely got driven. I think I put less thank 20k kms on it in 2.5 years of ownership.
Bought for 14k, sold for 12k unfortunately I included the pretty much new winter tires and rims and new brakes etc, but the heated seat didn't work and the buyer knew but still wanted it. So I'm happy!

I use to be on the Audi forum when I owned an A6 and 4000CS Quattro.

I'll be moving onto the Porsche Cayenne forum one of these days.

Their cooling issues are even more notorious than the N62, only thing that's scaring me away. Otherwise the GTS looks soooo tempting. A 911 s though might be somewhere in the not so distant future though…

Cant go wrong with a free replacement lol!

My eyes are wandering myself, like Upallnight I've been looking at Cayennes. The Turbo looks wild but I am wondering if non-scheduled maintenance will be even worse than on E53's.

Anhelenuk 11-20-2016 09:11 PM

I've driven both s5 and rs4 and from my humble opinion rs4 is the one to get. S4 with 4.2 v8 is too heavy to produce any kind of fun shenanigans.

Depends on which engine you buy.

Air cooled 911's or water cooled 996's which non PORSCHE people call a 911?

I have no idea idea what you're talking about, but I'm refereeing to the cooling issues on the cayenne and panemera. The cooling pipes tend to leak, my mechanic was telling me about how they were such a pita. I know nothing about porsches just what I heard from my mechanic and people around me that's why I tend to stay away from them. And for the record I know the difference between a 996 and a 911, the 996 is the ugly one lol. I'm a BMW guy now and forever.
