Where did you see any legal advice offered in that post?

Not to take sides or anything, but if you've previously offered advice and then you offer input that bolsters that advice, it's pretty easy to take that input... as advice.

I stopped reading from the start of the thread when it derailed. But I've seen input a number of times from the folks in this thread that is normally very civil. That's not to say that we're being uncivilized or anything, but I do share the feeling that this may be denigrating to a piss for distance.

Let's just let the original intent of the thread move along and allow our advice- however passionately we may offer it- fall to the ones who will consider it.

Let's change this up a little.
Perhaps our members can tell of an experience that
they are witness to concerning buying or selling a car.

Ok, I will start.

Years ago bought a used BMW E24 M6.
Price was good, looked nice, damn, mighta found a
California cream puff car.

Turned out the seller hasn't paid his expensive California state tax on the
M6.
Not a problem, I thought.

End result was I had to spend 600+ dollars to get the car out of the state.
As I learned that day, the government ALWAYS gets their money.

Deadbeat, promising, slick salesman excuse saved me exactly 0.0 dollars.
The California DMV man just told me "sorry to hear that dude, thattle be 652 dollars please.

What's your story?

Everyone here has different levels of comfort when dealing with the DMV and vehicle transactions in general... I've been in situations where I've had to inform the DMV how to do something or that they could do something at all.

Better idea AV8R... let's just wait for you to get that nice looking 4.6is in your driveway and skip the advice portion of the show all together as PropellerHead suggested. Then we can all celebrate that happening.

The question was:
Are we basing legal advice off of Judge Judy now?
There was no legal advice in my comment.

So why did I post about the case? Because it was a real world example of a point I was trying to make: Just because a title (i.e. the physical piece of paper) doesn't show an encumbrance doesn't mean one doesn't exist.

The whole thread is about a situation with legal undertones. Any advice concerns the law in his state, so it is, by definition... legal.

But that's all I have. I think you might be well to simply let this tiger go.

You can make this argument if you so choose. It may even have some modicum of validity to it. However that doesn't mean legal advice was being offered nor does it mean said legal advice was based on a TV show.

Again: The point of my posting about it was to provide a real world example of how a seemingly straightforward transaction can go south. A situation which others essentially said could not happen. It was not intended to, nor did it, offer any legal advice.

I would be happy to do so as long as people refrain from attempting to twist my words into something they're not.

Well since we are going to change the subject perhaps we should think about other more relevant things that pertain to the BMW x5 4.6is like what should be on the list of maintenance on AV8R's new ride. So I'll start it off: complete cooling system overhaul, all new hoses (there's a lot of them)

Sounds like a plan.

I believe they make under drive pullies for the the 4.6, correct? I think redliner runs them...

Take the next left please.

I'm going with my friend Jay's great idea.

crystalworks 12-02-2016 12:05 PM

Hah! LOL, shows how my brain works. I changed the "maintenance" in Jay's post to "mods."

Maintenance is much more appropriate. How about the transfer case actuator gear? Did the 4.6is have issues with the front prop shaft only being in the transfer case a short distance and wearing out? Perhaps take a look at it and grease it, or if it looks worn order the longer version.
