In Illinois it takes 3 weeks, unless you expedite it in which it takes a few days I think. Each state is different.

Glad I live in VA then...that waiting is ridiculous, looks like some states need to move into 21st Century.

The wait is to justify people jobs at the DMV in Illinois. Don't see why they can issue a New title and plates when you go in to pay for everything, especially if you have a lien waiver for the title.

You have to wait in WA as well. Any time you have to deal with the dmv you need to go through chemo afterwards.

I actually own a 4.6 that I bought new. It has been very far from high maintenance in spite of the engine mods that have put significantly more stress on the engine and drivetrain.

I don't think that anyone of us should draw a conclusion that any model BMW is high or low maintenance from posts here. Members come here about solving problems rather than to talk about how little they are spending to keep it on the road or how much they enjoy ownership.

Blanket declarations that a particular model BMW is high maintenance are often from the same few members. There are even some of our members that frequent other X5 forums offered here or otherwise that are also always negative about that particular model BMW. Many times they have never owned that model.

I think if one is going to draw a conclusion from information gathered here or any other source that the first hand experiences of actual owners, the 4.6 in this case, should be heavily weighted in the decision.

What OP should do before making a decision is to find out what is wrong and the cost to get it repaired and have the vehicle thoroughly inspected to determine if there are other repairs that need to be done. Add to that the unknown risk/cost of potential future repairs. With that information he can make an informed decision considering his circumstances, how long he would like to keep it and whether or not the potential future repair costs are acceptable risk against how much he values all aspects of the vehicle. The results will be a positive or negative value conclusion that applies to him alone.

My 4.6is came with comfort seats and no nav. Are those rear flaps stapled on? Looks like a nice example other than the rear badge and the red painted calipers. Usually something like this is owned by an older person who doesn't modify it but that's just the norm. That would have me a little more suspicious. I bought an E38 M sport with 38k miles super cheap from the original owner. He apparently tried to trade it in and was offered so little he got mad and posted it up for sale. KBB really helps enthusiast buyers when the sellers aren't in the know.

Are you saying the 4.6 is normally owned by older person who doesn't modify it?

RVAE34 11-28-2016 05:56 PM

No, no, I just mean generally someone who keeps a vehicle that long since new and still has such low mileage doesn't. Not all just majority... I don't know how many miles yours has but you already remind me of TXDarth on bf.c who has a 34k mile black sapphire E38 M sport with tons of mods :) Great guy so definitely a compliment ;)
