Adjusting auto headlights
 

I read in the manual that you can adjust the sensor on the auto headlights, mine's way too sensitive I feel. How is this done? Manual doesn't explain it I believe.

Via coding.

Through coding? Geez the manual explained it a completely different way unless I misread it.

My 2005 manual states...

"You can have the sensitivity of the

headlamp control system adjusted

on your vehicle."

To me, this infers "take it to the dealer". :cool:

So yeah, coding. Not sure if PA Soft covers this function or you'd have to dive into NCS Expert.

When reading the owners manual...pay attention to certain symbology...it has specific meanings. For instance, if the owners manual has the symbol/icon mentioned at the bottom symbol indicated in blue in the pic below...it means that the feature has to coded on/off by the dealer (or with aftermarket software/hardware that can communicate with all the car's control modules & bus system):

Also when the manual say's "You can "HAVE" the sensitivity of the
headlamp control system adjusted on your vehicle. It's not saying
"YOU CAN" adjust the sensitivity. Note there are no additional
instructions regarding what to do or how to do it.

If BMW can do it, YOU can do it. Coding has already been hacked, so if you know how to code a BMW YES you can do it.

What way or procedure did the manual explain it?

Unless they provided a procedure to change the sensitivity without coding, yep you misread.

Correct me if i'm wrong but most people don't have there gear or the interest to do coding.
That said i believe the conversation was about what the manual said the user could or could not do. That was my point.......;)

You are correct most people don't have the gear or the interest to do coding, just like most people don't have the tools or interest to fix a car.

Don't know what the manual said because :
1. I never bother to read the Owner Manual
2. My X doesn't have the auto headlight on feature.

My G35 has auto light on, but I can turn that option off manually.

The manual probably said that it can be done but you will need to bring it to an Authorized BMW dealer to have it done.
