So the AAA got my car unlocked......But now another issue!
 

Ok my FOB stopped working this week to lock and unlock the vehicle so I was using the physical key in the barrel, well that also gave out so I had no way of getting in the vehicle (Stupid Engineering if you ask me).

So I called AAA.

The roadside assistance guy was able to open the door using a bladder and bendable rod. He pushed the center console button for the locks then used it to grab the handle from the inside and the passenger door opened. But now I the center console master lock switch isn't responding. After he just literally pushed it. I can't unlock the driver door from inside either using the handle. I can pull the knob all the way up but it quickly sort he back down. Any ideas?

Im pretty confident the door lock actuator on the driver side is bad, but why wont the center console switch work now? Is there some alarm mode engaged? I have no idea what to do.

I cant lock my X5, Now cant open the driver door, I have to crawl over my passenger seat.

Please anyone? I know the obvious answer of taking it to a dealer or shop. But I dont have the funds to spend $1000 to fix somehting like this

Anyone from Oregon that can recommend a good shop?

Well, the short answer is that your BMW thinks it's been broken into! I'm surprised it didn't sound the alarm... how to get out of securities mode is the next step, but I don't know how to do that from memory... maybe pulling the battery for 30 mins with the headlights turned on to reset the modules? The door lock for your drivers door will need to be opened by pulling the door panel... not a fun job with it closed, but I think it's possible... I'm surprised it actually opened the passengers door! Your broken lock cylinder may have gotten turned to double lock somewhere in the process... double lock keeps AAA and thieves from breaking in by the process used just recently.

You may need to get the drivers door unlocked and open to allow the unlock button to function properly... you could get the lock fixed while you're in there!

If you don't have the funds to fix the BMW, perhaps buying such a high end car with its fancy dodad security system wasn't the right move.

You could have used your second key to disarm the alarm and enter the X. What, you don't have a second key? Why, doesn't this surprise me. A word of advice get a second key this way you will have a working FOB to open and lock the X as well as arm and disarm the alarm. You can send in your FOB with the dead battery to have the battery replace. Another word of advice, don't go on youtube to look at videos on how to replace the battery in the FOB. Like brain surgery, if you don't know what you are doing you will end up killing the key.

Battery replacement is fairly simple if you have a basic knowledge of electronics repair. I've done it a few times, and need to do it again on my spare key now actually. If you don't have experience, then as upallnight so "eloquently" put it... just go order a new key and send your current one off for repair.

Edit: And if you aren't comfortable dealing with the above batteries incorrect pin placement. This one has the correct 90 degree pin placement for the diamond style key circuit boards.

Replacing the battery itself is easy. Hardest, part is splitting the case open without damaging the EWS chip. Ruin the EWS antenna coil and the key is only good for opening the doors. You will never be able to start the car if the EWS chip or antenna is damaged.

True. I would agree splitting the key is the most difficult part of the task. Though I wouldn't call it hard... by my personal measuring stick, I could certainly see how someone could get ham-fisted with the repair and do irreparable damage in a hurry.

I wouldn't suggest attempting OP unless you are familiar with disassembling things carefully...
