Oil Coming Out of Filter Housing Cap
 

Hello again. It got down to 25 degrees and while it was warming up, I noticed oil dripping pretty steady out the front, driver's side. I popped the hood and seen that it was coming out of the cap where the filter sets in. I tried tightening it as much a I could before I felt like it was going to break, but to no avail. I did the oil and filter/seal about 3k miles ago. This is the first time it's leaked from this. Would a cheap seal/oring give out in freezing weather? I have a new and better filter so I guess I'll just do another oil change. Just wondering if it could be something else, but the seal is the only thing that makes sense right now. Thanks

Why not remove the cap and check to see if the O ring is broken..

No need to go crazy tight. Hand tight with the big socket, and somewhere around 1/4-1/2 turn till it bottoms out

Torque spec for the cap is on top of the cap. If memory serve me, I think it's around 25 NM.

Just remember for the next time the cap doesn't seal by being tight but rather on that o-ring. If the o-ring has split or has a chunk out of it you can tighten that cap until your blue in the face and it will still leak.

Thanks for that! I very well could have set the seal wrong. I guess the cold weather just did it in. It was sealing fine for about 3k, but thanks again. I will be working on it today.

Perhaps the sealing o ring is on the wrong groove thus preventing it from sealing correctly?
