4.8is electronic's locked out???help
So , I was changing out my rear air bags yesterday everything went fine , I charged up over night [voltage was 13.5 after charge] I went to start the car, the [I had the car still on the floor jack] I let the lower , the air bag filled up ,every thing good.
I went to park the car turn her off, I went inside for 10 minutes, came out, started the car, I noticed the the radio was not working, then I tried using the directional[nothing] I drove the car to where I was going, all the lights worked but the adaptive headlights was blinking. I went through the whole system, the computer is not working, the radio monitor is not working but has power, and the blue tooth is working but no speakers, headlights and directional out side are working but not inside.CD, and Nav are working[the units are ] but no monitor ,all fuses are good, I tried rebooting the car [through the battery re=install] air system is good, everything with the car works except for the electronics . Could it be the system locked out the electrons?????? |
Just a guess: maybe a failing battery? Did you measure the voltage after this happens?

12.7 is fine with vehicle not running. 13.5v minimum with vehicle on, and since you have a 4.8is (any N62 really), running voltage should be ~14.3-14.5v
Not sure I'd focus on the battery. Did you disconnect the battery while working on the suspension? Not sure why you would have to, but thought I'd ask in case the cable was not tightened back up or something. |
Put the key in the ignition and wiggle it. Anything turn on or change? How about the sun visor trick?
I am thinking Ign switch which seems to be popping up everywhere these days. They must be 10+ years old! This part failed on me during a shifter and trim replacement process. Just died. Did not touch it, did not use it. battery was disconnected and upon reattachment half the radio would display, and the seat belt warning light would not turn off regardless of clipped, door open/closed, etc etc. REALLY WEIRD Failure. Just a $.02 thought. |

What I was doing was replacing my old rear air bags with new arnoff ,[which was nice and easy and I was running late , and was all bummed out that the car was fixed , after fixing it.................You know these BMW'S always something going on. Any how I went for a 50 mile ride x5 is handling great, battery is now a 12.9v after the ride, the compressor was working overtime with the air bags leaking, nice to know now all the way aroung my 4.8is is in really good shape, this year I spent $14k fixing this car................but now it's in a very good place. Thanks Happy Holiday , safe travels. |
Congrats!
