Looking for CLEAR EURO E53 headlights or some kind of clear inserts?
Hey Guys,
I am getting tired of the yellow amber corners.. The euro look is 10x better.. Considering my X5 is black, the clear corners would make the car look much much better... Does anyone know where or how I can get clear corner headlights on my X5 ?? I looked and they are crazy expensive!!! around $2,000 for 1 - and around $3,500 for both - for just the housing and stuff - the bulbs I actually have to taker out from the old... Since this is not a new car, 2006 model, isint there a cheaper option to get this done??? I see plenty of totaled X5s, especially the E53s (4.4/4.6 and 4.8is) - does anyone know a website that sells these parts?? they can be used - aslong as everything is working and not damaged... Please if anyone can help?? My friend bought some aftermarket housing (clear) - but after it rains the headlights fog up - they are not 100% sealed - so I dont want the ones he has... So please can anyone help?? Does anyone know where I can buy used/or new CLEAR EURO headlights for the 2006 bmw x5 4.8is?? It has the bi-xenon lights with the auto leveling feature.. or is there a website where you can send them the old headlights with the amber and they send you clear ones?? or is there a website that sells these parts from junk yards or something??? .. I am dying to get the clear ones on my 2006 bmw x5 4.8is - i just dont want to pay almost $4000 doing so just to get rid of the orange corner reflectors.. Is there a shop or some place somewhere in NYC that can insert clear reflectors into the headlights and take out the UGLY ass amber reflectors in them? ... trying to get this done for the least amount of $$$ and time.. if anyone has any recommendations or hints - they would be greatly appreciated.. or if anyone knows anyone selling a set for 2006 bmw x5 4.8is for a good price - please let me know.... I am willing to spend up to a Grand for both... but not really more then that... 1200 max.. for both (driver & passenger side) Any help/info/hints would be appreciated... I had a guy in NJ offer to takeout the ambers and put in clear ones like 2 years ago, but lost his contact info :( |

Right - Part #63117166816 Left - Part #63117166815 European Ebay sites have 'em for around $300-500 USD depending on condition, etc. Your other option is to open your lights and adjust them as Crystalworks did. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ry-thread.html |
Remember, if you buy European lights the cut off of the Xenon will be on the wrong side and blind US drivers. Not sure if there was a switch/lever to change the cutoff pattern (there was on Hella E30 headlights) though.
Opening your headlights is a long and painful process. Looks amazing when you are done though. |

If you convert to Euro units for the clear corners (which my car has BTW), you will want to buy the correct pair for your car (Halogen bulbs or Xenon).
Realoem can be a good guide, naturally select the Euro version of your car with the same build month and year as yours. Selecting EUR and LHD will avoid most issues, then pick Halogen or Xenon. Ebay.de can get you good and bad parts, as Ebay.com, so know what you buy in advance. |

So to be honest, where can I buy one for good price that I know will fit? I found cheap ones on german ebay but if fitment wont be good for USA versions i dont know what to do... I found USA seller for clear headlights - but they are NOT Cheap.. $2500 -> https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...3117166815816/ -- but it says "EURO'' and that keeps throwing me off .. i dont want to have problems with wiring or something after I spend so much $$ on them,... There is another one that says CLEAR but not euro and its freken even more $$ see here -> https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...t/63117166818/ and its freken $1500 for 1 headlights - $3000 for a pair.. wtf and its just the housing no contract ballast even... For these installed with bulbs I could buy another whole demm X5... its silly honestly... esp with so many totaled x5's you see on the net... i wish there was a big website to catalog the europen wrecks and part-outs for sale.. I found these today see here ->> HELLA BMW X5 E53 LCI 2003-2007 Bi-Xenon Headlights Front Lamps LEFT+RIGHT PAIR best price/set/find to date.. Approx $1200 for both .. Man nam I am even more confused.. some have certain parts some dont..
I found a nice set with all the parts but guess what?? they are HALOGEN and not Bi-xeon or something that the x5 4.8is has ... you can go crazy looking for a correct set. I found these 1.) Drivers: BMW X5 E53 LCI 2003-2007 halogen LEFT side drivers headlight HELLA | eBay 2.) Passangers: BMW X5 E53 LCI 2003-2007 halogen right side passenger headlight HELLA | eBay and its $1200 for both with the parts needed and OEM (with bulbs, with actuator motor for LWR, with indicator, with low beam, with high beam, with position light... but they are HALOGEN and not Bi-xenon.... So heh... its hard to win... and find a CORRECT PAIR for x5 4.8is that dont cost a arm and a leg |

Jays brief comments are VERY relavent.
A proper conversion from US headlights to Euro isn't a $200 project, youre more in the $800-$1200 range (depends on rate of exchange and vendor). I've done a few (E12, E28, E30 & E34) US to Euro conversions over the years. FYI, many members put a vehicle description in their signature, which can help you and others in terms of advice. Here are a few things we don't know about your car - which would help us appropriately guide you.
As you are in the US, you would of course have a LHD (steering wheel on the left) car. These all will determine the specific type of complete headlamp units you need for the left & right sides. If you buy the LHD Euro versions, aside from initial headlight aiming, the beam pattern will have a straight pattern with the "triangle up and away on teh right side of the car - so it will not dazzle oncoming traffic. As for plug and play, if you have Xenon today, you would transfer your existing bulbs (H4 high beam, DS-2 Xenon for low beam) to the new Euro lights. Naturally you'd need the orange colored bulbs (wedge) for the turn signal lights. There would be some other points - but I'll keep this short and factual. |

It's confusing and you're upset. That's not anyone's fault on here. I've done the same work you have- and found the same frustration. In the end, as much as you might not like it, I have to agree with Jay: They're expensive. If you want L/R servo's and adaptive lights in clear from Hella, you're going to pay $$. You can think it's not worth it all you want, but guess what? That's what they cost. Whatever you do, I'd suggest taking a nice long read when it's time to replace the single-use bolts for the X5's structural plate. They're $16 ea. It's not the same parts of course, but it's the same ole high-end car issue: Parts are expensive. And of course, this bit of advice in the link below has absolutely nothing to do with you. How could it? It's over 2 yrs old. But it may just help you move forward to embrace the affair you're having with an E53. After 16 years and over 300k miles with the ones in our family, many of us found that you love it or leave it. You're early in the decision to stay or go, but they are the same for you as they are for everyone: The choice is yours and yours alone. My Open rant to (some) used BMW owners Now, speaking of my own affair.. I'm off to install new door speakers and a NIB BSW sub. Because it's been awhile since I've peeled off the door panels and I want a peek. :p: |
To answer OP - the set he found in Latvia looks perfect for me, left hand traffic would be LHD correct?
HELLA BMW X5 E53 LCI 2003-2007 Bi-Xenon Headlights Front Lamps LEFT+RIGHT PAIR | eBay It says with servo (auto level) motor, without discharge or bulb, so just swap your xenon bulbs and ballasts over from your stock lights - Only thing it says without cornering light so I assume you'd lose Adaptive lighting feature if you have that now - Euro E53 clear lights actually came down in price they used to be about $1500 a pair - |

I used to see these for 2.5k+. I always wondered why E53 items are more expensive  (New and Used) |
^Its not a fully loaded light but if the housings are new and Genuine its actually pretty phenomenal - if you were to go for NA lights from the dealer network you'd be at $500 apiece easily - I just cant figure out if they were RHD or LHD

The molds/tooling packages to produce these light can cost over a million dollars PER LIGHT ASS'Y (if built correctly, a MUST if final product is going to be a quality item). These "pre-production" costs MUST be recouped over total production run, $1,000,000 recouped over 1,000 units = $1000 per assembly, $1,000,000 recouped over 10,000 units = $100 per assembly. These dollar figures do not include production facility/production machines/assembly/staff/materials/warehouse/distribution..... |
