Panoramic sunroof initialisation / re-set process

I've read that you can 're-set' the pano sunroof by holding down the centre button for 30 seconds or so.
I tried this, in an attempt to clear a constant error code that I have had since owning the vehicle, not that the sunroof has ever given me any problems....
The sunroof opens as normal, however when I try closing it, the sunshade only moves in short bursts (about 3 inches or so) and takes 10 or more clicks of the 'close' or forward button to complete what used to take one-touch.
What have I done???? :dunno:

If I remember...you HAVE to hold the button and NOT releasing it until it finished the reset cycle.

See how you go.

Thanks for the tip. Will try it sometime today (hold the centre button down) for a while (2 minutes?) to see what happens.

Pano roof initialization process...required after working on roof...or sometimes after power loss (disconnected battery):

...just hopin' that after all that button holding...your pano roof starts working correctly. :)

All good mate - followed the instructions and she works perfectly now. It's amazing what you can achieve when you have the correct instructions! Thanks once again.

Hi Qsilver7, it's your latest student again. So in Key West a few years ago my wife opened the pano roof to cool off the inside of the car all the way open, no problem. Once we got in and started running the AC I went to close the sunroof and nothing happened. Had to hand crank the sunroof motor to close the glass and shade. Just avoided ever attempting to open the roof again over the next few months but did check it once or twice and it seemed to operate the shade normally opening so I intentionally stopped the operation about 6 inches back to make sure to see if it would accept the close command and again nothing happens. (Hand crank the shade closed again)

The first thing I tried was a new sunroof switch but that did not solve the problem. It opened very smoothly with no noises or grinding or dragging in the opening command but would not even click when trying to close.

Now whenever I try any tilt, open or close command I get nothing, not even a sound. I followed your directions above and after 15 seconds, I do hear the first of the sequence of the tilt operation make a sound in the rear for maybe 1/2 sec and then nothing more happens. Is there a way to check to verify if the sunroof has motor has possibly frozen? (4 wires, 2 heavy gauge, 2 22 gauge). Or is it possible that the cables have frozen from years of non operation?

Do you have any other suggestions to lead me in the proper direction to diagnose and repair the last issue I have with my X5. TIA and thanks again for all your help with my telematics control unit issue, that is totally resolved.

Just a bump. I was wondering if I can hand crank my pano sunroof and everything functions properly could I assume the cables and assemblies are all on good shape? Maybe a bad sunroof motor?
