Stock Nav or Aftermarket
 

I recently acquired a 2003 X5 with Sports Package. The previous owner replaced the stock NAV with an aftermarket pioneer one, picture below:

The pioneer NAV currently on there, has DVD, Radio, XMradio, but the screen is small, 6.7 inches:

I want your opinions on whether i should stick with the current NAV system or switch back to stock or get a better aftermarket with bigger screen? And whatever you suggest, if you could also suggest the specific NAV system to get.

Who uses any built in NAV of any kind these days...

With REAL TIME Data, IMO, waze or gmaps are far superior options when it comes down to using something of the like

If only carplay did not have so many restricitions and said apps were available via carplay

Like really its all on your phone.

A carplay type system would be good but you need something that lets you pick the apps of your choice. So maybe android auto until will address this. WAZE is awesome.

alright, i guess i'll just keep it as it is. and you guys are right, i hardly ever use the nav, i usually connect to the system via bluetooth and play music and do everything from my phone. thanks for the input.

Despite the title of this thread, some people have found the Eonon GA6166 to be a decent and relatively affordable infotainment/GPS system that fits very close to an OEM like look

The Eonon unit is basically an Android tablet in your dash. You can run whatever you want.

Though guessing from posts I think the Dynavin N6 is a popular aftermarket choice.

I guess I'm the only one crazy enough to go with NBT huh...

I actually think the NBT is the best way to go today. It looks clan and right in the X5 but a very expensive proposition.

My vehicle has the stock Navigation with DSP. Last year before my Thanksgiving drive from Dallas to Fort Myers I purchased the GROM bluetooth audio integration kit and its just one of the best implementations that I have seen to date. I bluetooth stream my music from my Pandora, I make phone calls from the steering wheel. For all that I need to do this system delivers. I know you do not have the OE system but if you did GROM would be a great way to go. Now If I were you I would just hold on because over these nest two years the electronics manufactures will have options that may very well just make sense for you to upgrade.

Dynavin is an alternative to Eonon, but you're spending twice the money for a lot less functionality. Eonons will run Waze or just about any Android app.

Leave it. The OEM Nav is out-dated. I've been using my iPhone for navigation.

I haven't seen a side-by-side. As a proxy for side-by-side reviews I compared a lot of the YouTube long-term reviews of Eonon and Dynavin. There's obviously variation in models/generations, but the Eonons were a more pure android/pseudo-tablet experience compared to Dynavins being more like a standard car stereo with an Android/WinCE base.

The audio shop I use also mentioned they'd had a lot of bad experiences with Dynavin and Avant for slow screen response, software glitches, etc.
