Front "clunk" noise
Hello, I'm having a problem, when I shift between gears, (parking to reverse, reverse to drive) I hear a noise, like a "clunk", between metals, the noise is heard near the front differential, is a hard hit,
thanks  |
Clunk usually means slop, because something isn't engaging instantly as it should. Check the condition of the guibo and for front driveshaft play at the splines.

My case was front cv axle, not a difficult diy. Does your car rattle in reverse not moving?

Thanks, im thinking the same, cv joints or driveshaft

End of the front driveshaft is a common cause. Somebody has a kit to replace just the spline at the end

I have a suction cup mount for my iPhone that is priceless for diagnosing issues. Take a video of a part in question under load.
https://vimeo.com/199185821 Here is an example of verifying my thrust bushings are shot. Hitting the brakes going about 2mph. Wheel moves over a cm rearward. My right side cv I could see a degree or two of motion when changing from D to R before replacing, also some stones got onto the brush plate under the engine and made a hell of a racket in reverse at zero mph and that was all but eliminated with swapping the cv axel. Found a new "copycat" part for $120. Since only takes a couple hours to change I rolled the dice on non-OEM and very happy with the off-brand I picked (other than I had a problem with the retention ring and had to swap the original over.
